There’s only one thing that differentiates the One 1 Leather from the One 1 Synthetic and that’s the kangaroo leather toe box. Beyond soft and supple out of the box, the k-leather becomes even softer and more comfortable as you break in the boots. The bumpy-looking texture on the toe box is the internal support liner reinforcing the leather, which is a step up from stitched leather like we saw on the Puma One 17.1. We’ve even seen Adidas make the switch from a stitched k-leather toe box on the Copa 17.1 to an internal support cage on the Copa 18.1; it makes a pretty significant difference when it comes to durability. While the liner has a bumpy texture, you don’t feel the bumps on the ball or on your feet. Instead, you get a smooth, padded, soft kangaroo leather touch on the ball, and what more could you ask for? Once you do start demanding the ball, the ONE continues to impress. The kangaroo leather that covers nearly every area of the forefoot and instep where you’d receive the ball is surprisingly thin, giving an impressively intimate feel for the ball. The thin lines that show under the leather that make up an inner support cage don’t change the feel for the ball. Any boot that gives us as much leather as possible without excess stitching is going to have us with fairly high hopes. The Puma GS One Golf Shoes are also engineered for performance. The ample space in the forefoot made the touch feel sloppy but the leather was surprisingly comfortable with a nice padded sensation when passing. It could have been softer out of the box but give it a couple of sessions and it should be broken in fully by then. However, with the previous generation providing one of the softest leather uppers from the get go, I don’t know why they switched out the leather to an inferior one.One of our fears was that the three very different sections of the boot would be a rough combination (evoKnit, kangaroo leather, and Sprintweb), instead, the liner helps make all the sections of the boot feel smooth and ready to go.
