About this deal

If you're already thinking ahead to Christmas, you couldn't go wrong with this for a fun gift to entertain the whole family. I’ve looked at the games before but the kids haven’t been that keen on them so as yet we hadn’t bought any. There are some variations, but the basics are very straightforward: Players take turns in throwing the dice, which decides the building theme (nature, vehicles, buildings or items), and choosing one card from the three difficulty stacks. A great game for family and friends to test your imagination, creativity, building and guessing skills to the max.

The winner will selected randomly and will be announced on the blog at the top of this post on Friday 1st October. Creationary was designed by LEGO Game designer, and initial conceptualizer of the whole, shall we say, concept of LEGO Games: Cephas Howard. The game is similar to the game Pictionary where players pick a card at random and attempt to build one of the objects pictured on it. Sure there are a few quickies that are built well and fast and guessed but way too many that are hard to conceptualize and never come close to being guessed correctly and take forever to build. Roll the LEGO dice to select one of the four exciting building categories (Vehicles, Buildings, Natures or Things).

Three levels of difficulty mean you can show off your building skills while the other players guess what it is your creating. The rules describe four different ways to play: one person builds and everyone else guesses, one person guesses and as many of four people build, two teams play simultaneously – each with one builder, and race to be the first to identify the object being built; and finally everybody plays as one team, racing against the clock – one player building, everyone guessing, seeing how many items they can identify before the time (whatever time they decide on) has elapsed.

I thought the game sounded like a great idea for a board game however it simply doesn't work as one. I think they could just sell the dice and the cards for kids to play with their own Lego collection and it would result in a more reasonable product. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. But my son loooooves legos so when i saw lego creationary and read what the game was, I thought it was one of the coolest ideas for a board game ever.

This is something you only find in LEGO Games and maybe among a few enlightened physical educators – the idea that people might actually choose to do something more challenging, not because they get more points for it, but simply because it is more fun. This game is a very creative game to play with building legos, rather than just following the directions of putting together a themed Lego set. We received this game on Friday to review, which turned out to be perfect timing on what has been one of the wildest, wettest weekends in Wellington in a long while.A tip for anyone who plays this game with kids: make sure that you explain to them that there creation doesn’t have to look exactly like the picture. The only difficulty was prising the creations back off Mylo who was keen to play with each one after it was made, which was fine until we suddenly needed a part of that creation for the next one. With three levels of difficulty you can show off your building skills, while theothers guess what you are creating. Every card portrays four subjects, one for each theme, and the player must then build the likeness of the one in the appointed theme.
