About this deal

With their moderate price tag compared to the flagship flash models of the common camera brands, it is worth trying the Godox flashes out and let them convince you, too.

While the flash does have a bounce card, I prefer using reverse bounce for on-camera situations to create a larger light source coming from behind me. Here’s a shot at 1/2000sec and f/1.4, ISO400 with HSS on. (You’ll find bumping the ISO helps save battery life, which is why I’m using ISO400 here). Using a flash for mixed lighting would be an option – for example lighting a butterfly with your flash, while exposing the whole scene for an available light sunrise.

But you do get to position the shadows better, as you can see in my article on lighting. I also have a list of cheap modifiers that won’t break the bank. The 120cm Octa is a good investment. And their quality has reached the point where they can now be trusted. Here is a sample of what you can achieve with 1 flash and 1 umbrella (not taken with the Godox TT350S) Better safe than sorry – nothing worse than forgetting to bring your focusing light on a nightly field trip and not having an alternative.

To be honest, using a speedlite can, and most probably will, enhance your photos a lot, but it is integral to also have an effective diffuser to produce even and smooth lighting on your subject.Nissin i40 (187 Eur): more powerful (GN40), only slave optical wireless available , much more easy to use To get really shallow depth of field with flash (especially outside), you need to use High-Speed Sync to overcome the limitation of the camera sync speed. To engage it, tap the Sync button once. That was until I bought a GODOX V860 II and realized their chargeable Li-ion batteries were even more effective. So if you are ready to learn their interface these are certainly the best you could get for a very low price
