About this deal

The midsole is made from Brooks' most highly responsive foam, ideal for runners who prefer bouncy over soft running shoes. This DNA AMP Midsole technology, also found in the Levitate range (aimed at neutral runners) offers enhanced stability, whilst being a super springy foam. This works by coating the existing foam to restrict horizontal movement in the sole, and increase energy return, meaning a more powerful take off. This is where the shoe is truly sensational and provides a wide range of support and fit. Right below your ankle is an elastic fabric that you use to wrap the shoe around the top of your foot. the adrenaline 19 has significant updates to it, but it’s still the better shoe. I’ve ran in adrenaline since the 15 or 16 and I liked them — but I’m finding that some people hate what they did with the addition of the guide rails. YMMV But…..like you, I keep getting some nasty blood blisters on the front of my toes (I’m in a UK 10, same as the Inspire). I have also found the collar doesn’t fit snuggly, which means if you run on gravel, etc it can drop in the gap and then down into your shoe.

In a nutshell: my hallux rigidus (basically stiffness in the big toe) was causing my foot to pronate on impact.

Brooks Bedlam Conclusions

Guide Rails are the latest introduction in Brooks technology and like all the others, it seems to veer in the direction of “we don’t correct your stride, we let your body define how to run”. This latest is about providing some stability without traditional stability technology (ie. dual posts).

Runners accustomed to wearing stability shoes with firm medial-side wedges of foam will appreciate the smooth, energetic ride of the Bedlam 3. Not only does the Bedlam have a modern design, it’s lighter and more effortless than most stability shoes available. Here’s where those familiar with past Brooks models may notice a lot of change. Outside of the heel area, there is very little bulk in the tongue and front of the shoe. Because the fit and feel have been enhanced and it’s much lighter, it’s a much more versatile shoe that it was in the past. They are made with Fit Knit technology and it provides you with a close-to-foot fit which is lighter, softer, and more breathable than before.A weighted foot strike gave way to a more cushioned feel and the energy return of the promised spring in your step. It was a welcomed surprise, and my runs in the Brooks Bedlam 3 since have been nothing short of enjoyable. The DNA Amp sole of the Brooks Bedlam 3 definitely delivers. So, that's how I ended up interested in the Brooks Bedlam 2. Months after my initial pain, while enjoying quality running again and loosened calves, I slipped on the Bedlam 2. This is what happened. First impressions of the Bedlam As your foot strikes the ground, the segments work together to customize your individual lay down to provide the right amount of cushion and seamless heel-to-toe transition for you – making the most of all that effort you put into each stride. Guide Rails I love the look of the Bedlam 2, which is another reason I'm so disappointed this shoe just didn't work out for me. I think it's a great looking shoe for running, gym workouts, or casual wear-to-work use. Price They did serve well on my long runs and my recovery days. The longest I took in these was 14 miles. While my pace wasnt ideal, it felt comfortable and I could feel the GuideRails working nicely with the DNA AMP midsole.

I constantly found myself having to make sure the detached part of the tongue was in the right spot so it went under the laces the right way. The updated GuideRails system will guide your feet forward. They offer subtle stability, as much as you need it without inhibiting the flex and flow for the shoe’s undercarriage. Beginner, novice and advanced runners will love this model as an everyday training shoe for long runs, recovery runs and faster workout sessions. So, if you're not a pronator, go ahead and look elsewhere. And if you pronate just the slightest, a minimum to moderate stability shoe is probably more up your alley. I'm still wearing the Bedlam 2 from time-to-time, but for the sake of my poor feet, it hasn't made its way into my go-to shoe selection. Why? Continue reading.

Running Shoes Buying Guides

This new DNA AMP Midsole technology, also found in the Brooks' Levitate delivers stability, comfort and a bouncy run. Brooks' "DNA AMP" midsole foam is a super springy foam that works by coating the existing foam to restrict horizontal movement in the sole, and increase energy return, meaning a more powerful take off. The combination of flat laces and fabric loops on the instep side of the shoe allows you to really customize the support you receive on your arch. Combined with a convenient heel tab and a snug heel collar, you really can't ask for more. Granted, I don't imagine it'd hold up great in nasty weather conditions. I can just see these puppies soaking up water like a dehydrated sponge.

Launched in 2010, DNA is a cushioning technology that is also present in most of Brooks’ running shoes. I was also surprised to see there wasn’t an extra eyelet. This was disappointing because I’ve been using the runner’s loop to tie my shoes for years. GuideRails, dense plates in the sole are what give the Bedlam its stability. I could tell from the start how much the shoe adjusted and kept me from over pronating. The Beldam 3's DNA AMP midsole is now 20 percent lighter and considerably springier. Combined with the new upper and outsole, it creates an amazing feeling of energy return in every stride.

WHO IT'S BEST FOR

The tongue itself is unique. It starts about midway down the upper and is attached to the rest of the shoe with a small 1-inch wide swath of fabric. I was a little confused by this and wondered why they didn’t just go with a one-piece booty style upper? Both of them have flat laces and traditional lace up closure. Also, both of them have a wrap-around pseudo collar. It has a comfortable interior and a sleek and a modern look that could double as a casual shoe with shorts or jeans. WHAT'S NEW? The GuideRail in the Bedlam is much like the original Transcend’s, and can be considered a precursor for what is to come: Stability that focuses on knee alignment, with a “coupling system” (an outer rail on the outsole keeps the calcaneus (heel) from rotating outward and putting torque on the knee). In early autumn, Brooks introduced an evolved version of the GuideRails system in the Bedlam; it’s the same support system concept used in the original Transcend. This new stability system is a paradigm shift from what was once believed: that the runner’s gait needed correcting and a medial post in the outsole would solve that. At the Runner’s World International Shoe Summit, senior product line manager Jon Teipen introduced the new system as similar to the bumpers in a bowling alley, with your foot being the ball. As far as comfort goes, I love how this shoe feels when I'm walking around the office or sitting at the computer. But the comfort dies soon after I start a run.
