About this deal

In some ways this game reminds us of Downforce but the dice and the options on the player board add another layer to the gameplay. In the six player game, four of us had played before and most people knew what they were doing before it came to their turn. I think the gambling industry is a total unregulated nightmare for many countries and the amount of gambling ads I hear and see in the UK makes me feel ill. The option to give horses you’re pulling for bonus movement when competitors are activated allows you to draft off rolls that would otherwise be useless. It’s fairly easy to learn, fast to play, plays well from one to eight players, and has a satisfying mix of both strategy and randomness.

Long Shot the Dice Game supports up to 8 players and I’ve really enjoyed it at just about any player count. If you can cross off a line or column on the grid you get to choose one of a number of tempting bonuses. Most players will already know what they’re doing before it gets to their turn, as most actions will not be affected by other player’s maneuvers. If you bet too heavily on a leader, others will either hop on your coattails or run you into the dirt. When you login first time using a Social Login button, we collect your account public profile information shared by Social Login provider, based on your privacy settings. At Tabletop Scotland recently Kenny Li, who is a friend of the team, had brought Long Shot: The Dice Game. In this way it’s more overt and active than one of its closest touchstones: Restoration Games’ Downforce. If you enjoy what I’m doing and want to support my efforts, please consider dropping off a tip at my Ko-Fi or supporting my Patreon. Your player board has a big grid on it that has a row for each horse with their multiplier for placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd or beyond the ‘no bet’ line, a helmet and a jersey for each horse and a space to record your winnings.

The biggest difference, though, is that you’re in control of how the car you own moves around the track, although you’ll also be forced to move some of your opponent’s cars. You can opt to use any number by crossing off a wild die box, but once you have done this three times you must use an entire action to wipe the boxes clean for future use. These can be anything from giving you the occasional free bet to manipulating how you fill out concessions. This delaying of strategic decision allows you to backload gambits by shifting the thought space into a tactical realm. However I just found out that one of the game rules is that there's no communication between the two players. That’s perhaps a bit more than some of its ilk but then again it has an actual board and wooden horse pieces, so that’s understandable.

In Long Shot: The Dice Game, you and up to seven other players will strategise and push your luck as the action unfolds in a tense race of eight horses. Once you have decided whether to use a wild or the number rolled, you can use that number for an action. When you setup you will be given some free bets on a couple of horses, pushing you towards them being your favoured steeds. In Long Shot: The Dice Game , you and up to seven other players will strategize and push your luck as the action unfolds in a tense race of eight horses.
