About this deal

The ET-8550 is known as the Epson EcoTank L8180, while the ET-8500 is known as the Epson EcoTank L8160. In addition to the usual cyan, magenta, yellow, and black ink, it uses gray and photo-black ink to produce more detailed photos. I believe that the discernible qualitative difference between this and the P Series is there, but from normal viewing distances the ET-8550 output would probably hold-up fine for my intended (non- art gallery) audience. While I could nitpick certain color tones or the overall sharpness, the ET-8550's prints look great at normal viewing distances.

In addition to the standard process colors of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK), the ET-8550 has two additional inks, Photo Black and Gray. It’s a wide format printer, which means it can take paper up to A3+ in size, and it has two paper trays and a rear feed, so you can effectively have three types of paper loaded and ready to print on, depending on what kind of project you’re working on. My primary focus will be features and performance relative to amateur photographers who want to print their photos at home without breaking the bank or sacrificing overall print quality. With this software you can scan images in color, grayscale, or black and white and obtain professional quality results. Yes, the Epson EcoTank ET-8550 supports A4 media as well as A3+, A3, A5, A6, B5, B6, Envelopes (C6, DL, No.Other than for Velvet Fine Art and Premium Luster, Epson doesn’t include profiles for other papers in their Signature Worthy line of media. How close is the print quality of the ET-8500 to pricier dye-based inkjets, like the Canon Pro-200 or pigment printers like Epson’s own SureColor P700 or Canon’s imagePROGRAF Pro-300? There's also an accompanying smartphone app that walks you through the setup process and allows you to make prints wirelessly. As long as you won't regularly need to print 16x20, 16x24, or larger, the ET-8550 is an economical choice. Regarding the cost per print, the ET-15000 yields more prints, and its replacement ink is cheaper, so it costs less to maintain over time than the ET-8550.

You must instead tap a button on the touchscreen, and the printer will retract the tray, allowing you to close the front of the printer. For Ultra Premium Glossy, there is an even higher "Best" aka "Max" setting which has slightly better detail (5760x1440 dpi) but no better saturation or contrast and is very slow. Print speed is far down my list of reasons for choosing one photo printer over another, but in the interest of completeness, I’ll note that the ET-8500 is quite speedy, both when printing photos and documents. In Europe, the ET-8550 is known as the Epson EcoTank L8180, while the ET-8500 is known as the Epson EcoTank L8160. The printer was easy to set up, and the app features illustrated step-by-step guides for initialization and using different paper types and sizes.

A printer for the modern user, the EcoTank ET-8550 allows you to print, scan, and more directly from your phone or tablet using the Epson Smart Panel app*, or print from SD cards and USB flash drives through the 10. Most papers printed fine from the top rear-feed slot, although some of the heavier papers had faint roller indentations on them, which necessitated my using the straight path feed (and which printed those papers without any indentations).

Mopria is a simple solution created to enable seamless printing from Android devices to any Mopria-certified printer. There's also a separation down the middle so that you can hold the document in place while lowering the lid.I will not be printing a lot but would like excellent photo quality printing and longevity for pictures printed and display in frames. The cost-per-print is remarkably low because a full tank lasts a long time, and replacement ink is relatively inexpensive. It uses an innovative 6-colour ink system (including individual photo black and grey inks) for high quality, low-cost printing, with easy refilling.
