About this deal

By December 1941, deportations from Prague to the Theresienstadt ghetto had begun, and the Ginz family was gradually broken up. Petr was transferred to a concentration camp in October 1942, once he attained 14. Two years later, he was deported to Auschwitz and was murdered in the gas chambers.

Rut "Rutka" Laskier (12 June 1929 – December 1943) was a Jewish Polish diarist who is best known for her 1943 diary chronicling the three months of her life during the Holocaust in Poland. She was murdered at Auschwitz concentration camp in 1943 at the age of fourteen. Her manuscript, authenticated by Holocaust scholars and survivors, was published in the Polish language in early 2006. English and Hebrew translations were released the following year. It has been compared to the diary of Anne Frank. I wanted to inform the publisher that I didn’t feel like writing a preface to this notebook, but while putting away the manuscript that was sent to me, my eye fell on this sentence: íI’ll give you a detailed description of my body. Well, I’m tall, thin, with pretty nice legs, very thin at the waist. I’ve got elongated hands but ugly, or more accurately, uncared-for fingernails.ë Epstein, Catherine (2010). Model Nazi: Arthur Greiser and the Occupation of Western Poland. Oxford University Press. p.103. ISBN 978-0-19-954641-1.

People have such old-fashioned ideas about friendship between adolescent boys and girls. They are incapable of grasping the new world.” The diary, which has been authenticated by Holocaust scholars and survivors, has been compared to the diary of Anne Frank, the best known Holocaust-era diary. Coincidentally, Rutka Laskier was born the same day as Anne Frank, [3] and, in both cases, of their entire families, only their fathers survived the war. [17] Publication of the diary [ edit ] But Rutka would write again. Her last entry was dated April 24, 1943. ”I’m very bored,” she wrote. “The entire day I’m walking around the room. I have nothing to do.”Rutka, en cambio, sabe bien cuál es su destino, sabe bien dónde acabará. — The diary begins on 19 January with the entry "I cannot grasp that it is already 1943, four years since this hell began."[1] One of the final entries says "If only I could say, it's over, you die only once... But I can't, because despite all these atrocities, I want to live, and wait for the following day."[1] Before Petr was deported to the camp, he kept a diary about his life. It was first published by his sister Eva as Diary of My Brother. The English translation was published in 2007 as “ The Diary of Petr Ginz 1941–1942.” Miriam Wattenberg (Mary Berg)
