About this deal

Published in the 1950s and released in five volumes, this historical novel, originally written in Tamil, tells the story of Arulmozhivarman, one of the kings of the Chola Dynasty, which ruled in the 10th and 11th centuries. It took Krishnamurthy three years and six months to write - it would probably take us about the same time to read it (not withstanding having to learn a new language). Think you can manage writing a 400,000-word novel? If you were going to write 1,000 words a day, that would take 400 days, more than a year. And if you only manage 500 words a day, double that to 800 days, over 2 years. Still, if it’s fame and glory you’re chasing, why not? David Foster Wallace’s Infinite Jest is a cult classic. And Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind won the Pulitzer Prize. Maybe bigger is better. Infinite Jest If you have lost a parent you were very close to, or found yourself tempted by someone you work for, YOU may connect with this book more than her first, or more than I did. With all the "struggles" Nina faces, she occasionally comes out as self centered. I know I'm supposed to feel sympathy for her or something, but I didn't. She seemed extremely one was to me, almost as though she was just "undergoing the process" with everything instead of an character that comes to life with soul and emotion. Maybe it was simply how the character was written.

Nina Gregory is the main character which everyone will enjoy her personality, a smart and educated young woman struggling with different problems! Nina tries to keep her life in consistent after her father's loss and the problems she faces are so common in real life and I love the way that the Author has written within the book is really wonderful and intriguing!

As always, there is some lovely, thought provoking writing. I especially enjoyed a chapter where Nina is visiting her father for their weekly " Jeapordy! and dinner" date...

Thank you to Edelweiss, Penguin Publishing Group - G.P. Putnam’s Sons and Jill Santopolo for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.Author Karen Witermeyer grew up in California before moving to Texas to go to Abilene Christian University, where she got master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Psychology. While attending the school, she met and married a Texas hero of her own. The guy roped her in real good, as she has lived in Texas ever since. The total word count of C.S. Lewis’ seven-book Chronicles of Narnia series is 345,535. That’s approximately the same length as Miguel de Cervantes’ Don Quixote (344,665). The Magician’s Nephew Now, none of these authors would win NaNoWriMo with their 40,000-word novel, but they’re obviously playing the long game. This list of 40,000-word novels should be subtitled: “How to write a book they’ll teach in high school English.” It’s like a who’s who of the English curriculum: Fitzgerald, Vonnegut, Hinton, Bradbury, hell, probably Nicholas Sparks… I mean, who knows? Clearly, even though we’re getting down to the end of this list of word counts of favorite novels, there are still heavy hitters in the lower range. Slaughterhouse-Five When her father dies, it feels as her world has been torn out from under her, so it makes sense she should lean on Tim and be with him, just as her father always wanted. And she loves Tim, so it makes sense, right?
