The well thought-out, straightforward setup process – not accounting for positioning – echoes the breath of fresh air in networking products that Wi-Fi mesh brings. But, savvier users might want more options or faster, triple or quad-stream 802.11ac wireless performance, which you find on most high-end routers now. Linksys WHW0301GC Velop is a high-performing modular Wi-Fi mesh system of nodes built to provide exceptional Wi-Fi coverage throughout your home. It sets up in minutes and delivers a flawless, ultra-fast, full-strength signal. In our throughput tests, however, I found that the Linksys Velop lagged somewhat behind BT Whole Home Wi-Fi. Testing with a 15in MacBook Pro equipped with a 3×3 MIMO stream adapter chip, the Velop averaged 50MB/sec up close, and 27MB/sec in the kitchen, with the laptop sat two metres from the node at the end of the chain. For comparison, I set up the three Linksys nodes in the same way as I did the BT system, hooking up the primary node to one of my Sky Q Hub’s two Gigabit Ethernet ports. Setup took around half-an-hour, and once I’d finished I ran a signal strength survey and two throughput tests to test speed and range around the house.

Flexible and a doddle to set up, but the price is high and overall performance isn’t as good as rival systems

For major failures with the service, you are entitled: Due to the tri-band Velop having twice as many antennas that can utilize beamforming technology to deliver a better signal farther away, you should realistically be able to cover an area somewhere between 5,000 and 6,000 square feet with three nodes. If you're living in a large home with five or more bedrooms, the tri-band Velop might make more sense no matter your basic internet speed. Adding a second node is a near-identical process, applying a different label to the main Velop node for easy identification. Nothing in these General Terms is intended to: (i) change or exclude any statutory consumer rights that cannot be lawfully changed or excluded; or (ii) limit or exclude any right you have against the person who sold the Product to you. Then we plugged in a second Velop node in a downstairs hallway, right between the first node and our test laptop and measured speeds again.
