About this deal

First pitched in snow it worked perfectly, Woke up to torrential rain once that had turned the ground into a pool, the groundsheet stood up to the task and didn't let a drop of water through. Value for money, a good middle ground between a standard 2man tunnel and a minimalistic tunnel tent At nearly 3Kg its not exactly light either in comparison to more expensive designs, the comparatively palatial MSR Elixir 2 I replaced this with weighs nearly 800g less and is much larger shelter (at 6x the price admittedly).

Mine is obviously an older model. No windows, no ark type poles. It pitches inner first and the inner is mostly mesh which means it's well ventilated. When touring in warmer parts of Europe I've often left the fly off. Great for taking advantage of any slight breeze and brilliant for stargazing from the comfort of your 'bag. I waterproof it often and havn't had any leaks, no broken zips or anything. Patched a small tear in the door with an offcut from the tent bag.Ventilation is good with two mesh panels in the fly protected by hoods. Also, a half moon vent can be unzipped in the D shaped door panel.

Low and angled down enough to take strong winds with ease, you loose out on headroom but its no problem getting changed inside.I used it for the first time last weekend, in wet and windy Wasdale.(Lake District). It stood up to all the elements really well. Due to it's low height on the ground, it managed well in the wind. We had 24hrs of non-stop rain and this little tent held up brilliantly! On the coldest of the two night's, I did experience a lot of condensation on the inside of the inner tent, which dripped quite annoyingly on to myself and my kit in the morning! It didn't take long to dry out though and I guessed that it was condensated because we had experienced a lot of damp over the two nights, the latter being the colder of the two.

I never sleep with both inner doors closed, only the mesh, with both it can get humid inside especially overnight, leave the vents open on the outer and it will allow nice airflow through, but if you are out of the wind, not enough to provide air circulation for the inner tent. Yes, there are tents that are a bit lighter, employ better quality materials and have a few more bells and whistles, and for that reason, I have given this product four stars. However, that seems somewhat churlish when set against the price of this product. The only gripe I really have is that the height of the taller end of the tent(entrance end), is just slightly too low. I am 5ft 2inches and can crouch well, but found it uncomfortable to sit upright whilst sitting out a rainstorm. Not a bad tent for the price, too small for two full size people (maybe two teenagers on DoE), but nice size for one person +bag. The tent forms a wedge with the foot end both narrower and lower. Point that bit into the wind. (yes I know, then the wind changes direction, but at least we tried eh?)Its low, thin and long so is really discreet (one of the requests for Wild camping on Dartmoor). It is also very light. It's shape lends itself very well to the wind. I needed a reasonably lightweight tent for a one-off cycle tour and did not want to spend the significant, three figure sum that top of the range tents retail for. Also, being ultra lightweight was not so important to me.

I noticed a few small darker patches along the ridge the following morning. I shall probably apply some additional proofing to these areas as a precaution. That said, there was no evidence of water penetration and the overall construction is of a very acceptable standard. It rained continuously during my first night. The ventilation panels did their job, with not a drop of condensation present. That said, this was a mild July night and I was using the tent solo, so I cannot comment as to the outcome if those variables had been significantly different. I am 6ft 6 in height and one of the biggest problems I have when camping is the sleeping area is too short. I fit nicely in this one.
