About this deal

This book is an ode to the millions of women who worked in factories of all allied nations during the World War II, building airplanes, ships and tanks and making guns and bullets needed for the war effort. It’s very special for me, as my paternal grandmother was one of those women.

To give you a sneak peek into the story, Rosie Revere has big dreams of becoming a great engineer. She creates wonderful gadgets and gizmos, but only when no one is watching. She's kept her inventions a secret ever since she was very small, her uncle Zookeeper Fred laughed at the unique cheese hat she designed him to keep snakes at bay. I like the Questioneers series because I like science and engineering as well as art and the books feel like the combination of both subjects. I also like it because the books are like poems. The sentences rhymes. It was fun to read them. What do you do when you try something that doesn’t work the way you want? How do you feel, and what do you do? Rosie Revere and the Raucous Riveters is the first in a unique and exciting series of chapter books for children, parents, and teachers who want to make STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fun.

Find a Scheme of Work

The story is a great combination of funky inventions (e.g. SnakeAway, a snake-scaring machine), quirky characters (like Rosie’s great-great-aunt flying on a cheese-copter or her joyful friends, the Raucous Riveters, who built airplanes during the World War II), as well as great messages (dealing with pressure, the power of friendship, overcoming fears). In addition, the book pictures the real process of engineering: brainstorming, research, sketching ideas, design, making prototypes, testing and redesign based on performance. Each character's picture book also has a corresponding workbook available, which is a great resource to enhance the kids' creativity and imagination. Sometimes, Rosie’s weirdest ideas made her think in a new way or solved tiny bits of a big problem.” There is a Spelling Seed session for every week of the associated Writing Root. Coverage: Common Exception Words

Een prentenboek met grappige tekeningen vol details. Een boek dat ook in de week tegen pesten past. Een boek met verschillende emoties.

Rosie Revere, Engineer is author Andrea Beaty and illustrator David Roberts’s beloved New York Times bestselling picture book about pursuing one’s passion with persistence and learning to celebrate each failure on the road to achieving one’s dreams. Her great-great-aunt Rose visits and mentions to Rosie that she still has one goal to achieve in her life. She wants to fly. Rosie lies awake that night, thinking of how she could help her aunt fly. She came up with the idea of making a cheese-copter. Will no doubt inspire conversations with children about the benefits of failure and the pursuit of dreams.”— School Library Journal Great rhyme and meter. Reminds me of Dr. Seuss; Beaty's rhymes pop every bit as well as Seuss's, and she doesn't cheat (I think Dr. Seuss got lazier over time, making up fantastical animals whenever he needed something for his rhyme scheme). Rolls off your tongue if you're reading out loud, without any awkward spots where you have to stop, re-read, and figure out how to carefully emPHAsize the right syllAbles to make it work.
