Innerview: Lessons in Leadership offers a unique perspective on intentional self-assessment that you can use to understand and activate life’s purpose. I am at the University of Missouri in Columbia, where I am finishing up my PhD in Communication with a focus in Identity and Diversity, and also maintain an assistantship there. While a native of the South Side of Chicago, I received a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and a master’s degree from Illinois State University, and did so with no student debt whatsoever.

And so I was able to sometimes do two engagements in one day I could do one in California, one in Florida virtually and not have to leave and not have to also invest in travel expenses. As an undergraduate student attending Central Michigan University (CMU), Williams practiced what she preached by taking advantage of every student leadership opportunity provided to her. So I could not show up to my speaking engagements half-tired because I had a paper due last night that was 15, 20 pages, you know? To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. It’s so exciting seeing the fire in our student leaders at Peru State College reignited because of Natilie! Do I need to try and apply for a fellowship or a scholarship or outside grants or things of that nature?It also provides a key entry point for colleges to offer additional services to ensure our students have their basic needs met. Williams began stepping forward as a leader during her freshman year of college when she would talk with high school children in her community about the importance of valuing their education. So just knowing where I always stood financially gave me the knowledge to make the best-informed decisions financially as a doctoral student. A South Side Chicagoan, Williams is traveling the nation to encourage students to use their resources and education to set themselves ahead of the pack and become leaders in their local communities.
