About this deal

Tried and trusted since 2002 by millions around the world, the Mooncup menstrual cup offers an end to the waste, discomfort and expense of disposable sanitary protection. We’re so sure you’ll love your Mooncup that we’re offering all our customers a satisfaction guarantee. The Mooncup is designed by women for your comfort and convenience. Made in the UK, the soft medical grade silicone Mooncup holds three times as much as a tampon, making it great for heavy days. And, because it’s non-absorbent, it won’t cause dryness when your period’s light. You only need one Mooncup, which lasts for years. Suitable for women with sensitive skin and allergies. Unlike tampons, the Mooncup won’t expose your body to pesticides or bleaches, leave fibres behind or dry you out. And because there’s no string, the Mooncup is completely discreet, whatever you’re wearing. Ideal for travelling, swimming, and exercise. But it was the real Mooncup users who helped to smash the menstrual taboo. We have long known that word of mouth recommendation has been the key to the Mooncup® menstrual cup moving from ‘hippy’ alternative to the go-to period product. We know that there is no such thing as a typical #RealMooncupUser: each one of us is unique, united by a mission to have a more positive, healthy and eco-friendly period. They assessed how clear the instructions were before use too, and whether they experienced any leakage. The multi-award winning Mooncup® was born of a desire to drastically reduce the waste produced by throwaway period products. Created in 2002 in Brighton, we produce the world’s first medical grade silicone reusable menstrual cup: putting an end to the waste, expense and discomfort of disposable tampons and pads.

Once the Mooncup is inside it opens up and forms a light seal with the vaginal wall which holds it in place. In our survey, people were overall more positive about their experiences with menstrual cups than negative – 61% said they liked them compared with other sanitary products. During your period, you can simply rinse your menstrual cup with water or wipe it with a tissue after emptying it, and reinsert it. The Mooncup sits lower than a tampon and works by collecting the menstrual blood. The Mooncup is held in place by the vaginal muscles and can be emptied, rinsed and reinserted every four to eight hours. It can be used safely when travelling, swimming or exercising. Frequently Asked Questions about using a Mooncup

Why Mooncup?

Been using my Mooncup about 6 months now and love it, really easy to use and never had any leaks unlike with tampons. I have really heavy periods and used to need to change tampons regularly (1-2hrs!) which was difficult at work, don’t have that problem any longer because the mooncup is definitely up to the job which takes away a lot of stress. I was nervous about emptying it in public toilets but you really only need a small amount of water to rinse it out and a little bottle of water takes up less room in my bag than a massive pile of tampons! I would recommend it to any woman, it really is amazing :)” – Becca

We are committed to working towards ending period poverty both at home in the UK and globally. To date, over 20,000 people with periods have received a free Mooncup menstrual cup through the charity and period equality projects we have participated in.

The first menstrual cup, made from rubber, was invented in 1937 by an American woman named Leona Chalmers. Unfortunately for Chalmers, a wartime rationing of rubber during World War II impacted the production of her menstrual cup. I bought one of these from Boots on Saturday. After reading a bit about them first, I was worried that it would take some getting used to. How wrong I was! These things are amazing, if you are reading about them, buy one! Don’t put it off a minute longer! No mess, no leaks, it’s easy 🙂 I can’t say for sure after 2 days, but I’m pretty sure this might just be life changing! I have almost forgotten that I am on my period.”– Charli Some brands, including DivaCup and Lunette, sell menstrual cup cleansers, and there are also wipes available (which could put a bit of a dent in the eco-credentials of your cup). Reusable period products were unheard of when we first started. There was no category for sustainable period products on supermarkets’ period aisles. People didn’t talk about periods and were revolted by what we were doing. To bring reusable period products to the mainstream, we’ve needed to do some serious taboo busting!

There are also menstrual discs that are shaped more like a shallow bowl, without a stem. These tend to be one size fits all, and some can be worn during sex. It may take a bit of trial and error to get the hang of inserting and removing them. Cost The length of the cup or stem you want (which differs slightly between brands) depends on how low your cervix sits during your period. This is where you might need to experiment with fit a bit. You can also use your fingers to judge how low your cervix is sitting. We could only include user insights for brands where we received 50 or more responses in our survey, so while our list above covers the brands that the most people had tried, there are a number of other menstrual cups available to buy.

Difficult to take out (20%) 'I t takes a while to perfect how to take them out... this definitely caused issues at first!' Good value for money/saves money over time (46%) 'They are just like using sanitary towels and pads but cheaper – a good money-saving option.' Thankfully, the concept has gained more widespread popularity and recognition since the early 2000s when the Mooncup menstrual cup was invented. Who invented the Mooncup?

Her cup was met with resistance from the public. Perhaps ahead of its time, the idea was shelved due to the rise in the popularity of disposables and the invention of the applicator tampon. With proper care and cleaning, a menstrual cup can last over a decade, saving women thousands of pounds on sanitary products over its lifetime." Way to avoid the tampon tax... Thanks to Mooncup® users worldwide, over 3 billion tampons and pads have been diverted from landfill and our oceans. This is one of the more obvious impracticalities of using a menstrual cup. But as they have become more mainstream, a whole mini-industry has popped up to make menstrual cup cleaning simpler.
