Bach Flower Remedies - BeechBeech – The Tolerance Flower

From know–it–all to better understanding.

For those who feel the need to see more good and beauty in all that surrounds them.  And, although much appears to be wrong, to have the ability to see the good growing within.  So as to be able to be more tolerant, lenient and understanding of the different way each individual and all things are working to their own final perfection.” Edward Bach

We all find ourselves, from time to time, in this negative Beech state. It’s a state in which we tend to be arrogant and highly critical, judging others by perceived and often very narrow standards.  Later we usually realise that we were mistaken because we hadn’t taken into account, or were unaware of, certain circumstances.  In the negative Beech state you’ll be very critical and judge according to narrow guidelines or intellectual premise, other people become the subjects of your scrutiny and you classify them and make final judgements without completely understanding their circumstances or feelings.

We can also see how Beech can often be referred to as The “Bitchy” Beech!

Behaviour pattern in the blocked state:

  • The mistakes of others are readily apparent to you
  • You always see only what’s wrong in a situation
  • You’re unable to accept that no-one is perfect
  • You sit in judgement of others
  • You are overly critical of yourself
  • You become upset at the “stupidity” of others
  • You have petty reactions and you lack tact and sensitivity
  • You become irritated easily by small gestures and speech habits of others, your reactions are out of proportion to the situation
  • You cling firmly to prejudices
  • You’re very touchy about personal criticism, avoiding any discussion of the issue at hand
  • You habitually seek out the flaw in any situation, overlooking advantages and potential that could develop
  • You’re disked by others because of your intense criticism of them
  • You’re determined not to appear intolerant by showing exaggerated understanding and refraining from any criticism, even when constructive criticism would be helpful, whatever happens “it’s okay”

Even if only one or two of these patterns precisely match your present situation, you need Beech!

The positive potential of taking this remedy is good mental acuity and the ability to differentiate and show good judgement. The ability to see the positive possibilities for growth behind less than perfect situations, and to show understanding, criticise constructively, and being able to accept criticism yourself. Developing a tolerance of personality types that are totally different from yours and respect their strengths and weaknesses.
