Dulcolax (Bisacodyl) is used in hospitals to help you empty your bowels before surgery or some examinations or treatments. Your hospital will explain how to use it. After taking Colace (Docusate) by mouth (tablets, capsules, liquid), you should have a bowel movement within 12 to 72 hours. Take Colace (Docusate) for up to 1 week. If you take Colace (Docusate) for longer, your bowel can start to rely on it, rather than working on its own. Measure liquid medicine with the dosing syringe provided, or with a special dose-measuring spoon or medicine cup. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.
