Available online, or any Dulux Decorating Centre, Armstead vinyl matt can be tinted into almost any colour. Opacity and ease of use are fantastic. Please avoid ‘brilliant’ white when painting a ceiling. This emulsion leaves a relatively flat matt finish, which is perfect.
Previously painted surfaces with dispersion, alkyd and oil paints: Wash the surface before painting and remove grease. Remove flaking fragments, sand the surface and clean with water. Sand glossy surfaces with mid-grained sanding paper. Clean the surface with water and let to dry. I’ll be honest, this product takes a little bit of getting used to. Let’s start with the opacity, or as some decorators wrongly call it, “coverage”. If you are hoping to get away with one coat over the top of an existing white emulsion, then you can think again!! Even if you are recoating a ceiling which is already a solid white, you will have to apply two full coats of Tikkurila Anti-Reflex to reach your desired finish.

Repair and surface defects with a good quality interior filler. Prime with Tikkurila Anti-Reflex White diluted with water (up to a maximum of 20%) Ans. Using a primer can enhance adhesion and coverage. It's a good practice, especially if you're painting over a highly absorbent or dark-colored surface.Anti Reflex 2: This water-based latex paint with a deep matt finish minimizes reflection, making it ideal for concealing imperfections and easy touch-ups. It's available in classic white shades. As far as water-based trim products go, Helmi is crap to apply by brush and roller. Plus, it isn’t what I’d call durable once cured. You’ll find it very loose, hard to control and you’ll have issues with brush marks.

Tikkurila Optiva 5 is probably one of the better durable matt emulsions on the British market right now. It outperforms Dulux Diamond and Johnstone’s Endura, plus it’s a lot cheaper. I’d probably avoid Optiva 5 in white as the finish and opacity aren’t great, but in colours, this is a great product! The finish is just so rich and remarkably flat for a durable emulsion. Opacity and ease of use are bang on too. I’d recommend Tikkurila Optiva 5 to anyone.
