About this deal

As a grown-up, it is enjoyable to read, there's a nice rhythm to the story and it's got enough humour and points of interaction to keep it intersting for the reader as well as the audience. We have created this PowerPoint presentation of 21 slides linked to Gigantosaurus which covers the full story with teaching notes and explores a range of factual elements about the story as well as whole class activities. Following the path of The Boy Who Cried Wolf, four little dinosaurs are warned by their parents to watch out for Gigantosaurus. This is actually the name of a poorly described genus of sauropod from England, while Giganotosaurus is a carnivorous dinosaur from South America.

There's also a fold out page and, to whet the appetites of knowledge seekers, there are snippets of information about the featured dinosaurs on the two final double spreads. The Pirates Next Door won the Waterstones Prize in 2012 and was shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize. Includes a colorful poster and more information about dinosaurs -- including the eponymous Gigantosaurus. Krokk and Gucklock, two giganotosaurus, and their henchmen are the main villains of The Forest of Evil.

The rhyming story rollicks along and with their filmic quality, the digitally created illustrations seem to leap off the page. Bonehead scares his friends couple of times by screaming that the Gigantosaurus is coming, friends hide, Bonehead laughs at them that he tricked them and tells them they are stupid. The story is very much based on Aesop Fable ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf,’ and has some funny, if not a little dark, turns, which are very quickly followed by a happy resolve. Despite their large size, they can be quite stealthy and are skilled at developing poisons and weapons. However, we got a bit confused about the description of the Brachiosaurus: "A truly huge herbivore, Tiny's mum will grow to be even bigger than Diplodocus! The informative text supports science standards and builds readers’ expertise on the dinosaurs featured in each title. For Jari — the adaptor and tester of these recipes, here’s to many more cooking-writing adventures together ~~~ A POTFUL OF LAKESIDE TALES Containing Twelve Recipes both Sweet and Savoury Said Recipes being paired with Strange Tales from the Northern Lakes by Mistress Ember of-Alder-House.

If you read my review all the way to the end, you can check out an alternate ending to this book that I just thought of: Instead of Bonehead getting "eaten", his friends get taken by the Gigantosaurus because they didn't believe him to run away. Younger children will enjoy having this read to them, while the language used is more suitable for older children to read alone. It's essentially a 'boy who cried wolf' but in this case, the young monster was looking for the largest carnivore ever to roam the planet during the time of the dinosaurs. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. One of the dinosaurs decides to be look out while they are playing and starts testing the others by yelling they see the Gigantosaurus every other minute only to say they were kidding. As a rule, the problem with rhythmic stories for children – which you notice when you’re reading them out loud over and over again – is that you often find that you want to add or remove words to retain a more poetic flow than the original. My son is dinosaur mad and I am always on the lookout for new dinosaur books and if they feature dinosaur poop then even better! A wonderful surprise is the fantastic fold out in the middle of the book – children will be absolutely tickled! All we’ve heard about for at least the last decade is The Gruffalo (I know it was first published in 1999, but as with most things it took numerous years to become a household word).

Bonehead always insists on being the lookout but enjoys flaunting his power, tricking the other dinos into hiding from friendly dinosaurs. All in all this is a good conversation piece for teaching children what can happen when we are dishonest and how being dishonest can take away the trust others bestow upon us. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. When reviewing picture books, I firstly ignore the text and flip through the pages allowing the illustrations to talk to me. And of course, there's the opportunity to talk about when joking goes to far and why you should be trustworthy in what you say.I actually felt kind of bad for young Bonehead because unlike the wolf story where the child is being willfully untruthful, Bonehead simply mistakes other large animals for the Gigantosaurus.
