About this deal

How do I know? The second time I made this recipe, I only had one intact candy cane out of a box of 100. Frustrated doesn’t even begin to describe how I felt. They make such a personal present for someone special or a beautiful keepsake that can be used for years to come. While the coating is still wet, top the bark with a generous sprinkle of candy cane pieces all over the top of the heart.

Melt both candy coatings in separate microwave-safe bowls, heating them in short bursts and stirring frequently to prevent overheating. To make single-flavor peppermint bark, spoon white or dark chocolate into the center of a candy cane heart and smooth it into an even layer. Top the bark with a generous sprinkle of candy cane pieces while the chocolate is still wet. There are two ways to melt chocolate for bark: double boiler or microwave. I used a double boiler to melt both the white and semi sweet chocolate for these peppermint bark hearts, but you can learn all you need to know about how to melt chocolate right here. Step 5: Add the chocolate to the inside of the candy cane hearts While the white almond bark is still wet, decorate the treats with sprinkles or crushed candy canes or any other decorations you can come up with. These are the main steps to creating peppermint bark hearts, with some important tips along the way. I love a bit of Christmas crafting and I’ve found a really simple, festive and delicious craft which will delight the whole family this Christmas. I’ve been making candy cane hearts to hang on my tree. If at any point the candy canes get too cool and become too difficult to shape, return them to the oven to soften for a few additional minutes. Once all of the hearts are formed, let them cool completely at room temperature before proceeding.

Using a spoon or decorator’s bag, drop your melted chocolate into the center of the candy cane, being careful to not hit the sides. I recommend starting in the center and gently pushing the chocolate out using the tip of the spoon until it is even. Sorry, I didn’t take a picture of this process for this project. Valentine’s Day Sprinkles and Coconut Less is more when you are adding the candy. You can always add more but it’s much harder to take some out. Unwrap the mini candy canes and place them in a large plastic zip-top bag. Crush the candy canes with a rolling pin or meat mallet until they are in small pieces.Let the candy cane hearts cool in the refrigerator until firm, about 30-45 minutes. More Holiday Treats to Love: The directions on the container of chocolate said that I needed to melt the chocolate in the microwave at 50% power until ¾ melted, stirring every 30-60 seconds. Once it was mostly melted, I just stirred to melt the rest. Here are the tools and equipment I use to make my traditional sweets recipes. To make this candy cane recipe, you’ll need: Fun project to make for your upcoming holiday party! These are thin peppermint hearts made from candy canes! Supplies for candy cane hearts:

To make single-flavor peppermint bark, spoon white or dark chocolate into the center of a candy cane heart and smooth it into an even layer. You don’t need to fill chocolate all the way to the top of the heart–reaching about halfway or two-thirds to the top of the candy cane is just fine. Our simple yet fun craft is made from a collection of green, silver and red pipe cleaners, twisted into two candy canes and secured together into a heart shape.

I prefer the Brachs brand if you can find them. They are always good quality and you won’t often find a lot of broken candy in the box. For even more candy cane or heart-shaped activities, then why not try our Candy Cane Wreath? You will notice how the candy canes when glued together make a heart shape.

Lay two mini candy canes next to each other, creating a heart. Continue filling the baking sheet with heart shapes. For this project you wouldn’t need a lot of coconut, perhaps 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup for each color, depending upon how many you made. You could make extra and use it for other Valentine’s Day treats! To make, add coconut to your baggie and drop 2 to 3 drops of food dye. Seal it shut and shake it well until all the coconut is evenly colored.
