We set our KPIs for environmental and social outcomes on an annual basis which are discussed in all board meetings. I can’t quite believe we launched a year ago and have endured the worst pandemic of recent years, but we’ve had this success.
Encourage sustainable practices internally and externally. We require suppliers to fill out our social and environmental questionnaire and review and update our policies. Supporting environmental organisations, as an outward looking, purpose-driven enterprise we look to work with organisations that share out values. GreenSea Solutions Ltd is one such organisation that cultivates seaweed in Scotland. Feragaia never touches alcohol meaning it retains all the natural flavours and qualities of its ingredients. We minimise the use of high emission vehicles in favour of cleaner, environmental and delivery. Our impact is low currently, but as we grow, clean logistics will be a key area for us live up to our commitment. Using our platform for good education and inspiring Feragaia drinkers to reconnect to nature behind them for their own health and to learn to respect our planet and its resources more.

Luxurious Magazine: The non-alcoholic drinks market is expanding rapidly. What was it about this that made you want to launch Feragaia? Most alcohol-free spirits rely on alcohol to carry flavour in the process, this is then stripped out along with natural flavours of the botanicals. We do not currently monitor hazardous and toxic wastewater; however our manufacturing process has eliminated the use of chemicals and botanicals are composted after use. As we look to develop our distillery, we will aim to install the infrastructure so we can monitor this impact.
Our mission is all about reconnecting drinkers to Wild Earth (Feragaia’s translation) within themselves and each other. Feragaia is a radically authentic alcohol-free spirit that redefines what you think you know about alcohol-free. Our social and environmental policy is a huge factor in our decision-making process and is seen as integral to the long-term viability of our business. As part of our commitment, and as a purpose-driven organisation we strive to help restore and protect Wild Earth and bring a net positive impact to the world. Furthermore, the bottle’s format has increased from 500ml to 750ml. It is also made from 100% recycled glass, reflecting the company’s B Corp accreditation. As part of our zero-waste commitment nothing goes to landfill, we use recycled and recyclable materials, have a low impact manufacturing process and we repurpose and reduce waste where possible. I think it is nicely illustrated by a conversation I recall being an observer in, which went something like, “If you can, invest in big alcoholic drinks businesses, do- people will drink alcohol whether they are happy, sad or just feeling normal”.

JW: My sculpture and the Feragaia brand both centre around the same general concept, which is loosely finding a greater connection to ‘the wild’ – conveniently, my surname. Bold by nature, Feragaia is an alcohol-free spirit made from land and sea botanicals. True to its name, meaning ‘Wild Earth’, it is a product of windswept coastlines, open country and creative minds. These delicate flavours of flowers and leaves combine with the earthier notes of root botanicals and spices to create a complex and layered drink.
The product contains 14 botanicals including seaweed, bay leaf and chamomile, and is hand-blended and cut with Scottish water.We support various purpose driven enterprises with financial contributions and using our platform to spread awareness of their messages. Through various brand activations we have raised money for charitable and local causes over 2% of our revenue - Protect Our Winters, McMillan Sober October and Seawilding.In 2021 we want to become more established in the domestic market, adding more premium retailers like Harrods. LM: What’s next in the pipeline for you? Can we expect new creations and versions of the Feragaia soon? Come to Hoot the Redeemer if you like the idea of being transported to 1950s New Orleans. This fun-fair themed dive bar is an experience, offering iconic arcade games which invite guests to create their own concoctions (with a claw machine!). At Hoot the Redeemer, there is a surprise around every corner. Drink in the full atmosphere of this establishment and revel in the resulting sensation of child-like glee. We regularly assess microbial, chemical and mineral content of water used and manage water sources appropriately.
