About this deal

I give it 4 rather than 5 stars as I do agree with some of the other reviewers that it is a touch thin, which is a shame as with just a little more to it I think it could have been a perfect 5. There is a bit of a jolt between the rather bold nose and the subtler palate, with a fast-fading finish. The smoke rising through the malted barley during this drying process confers the whiskey with a distinct peaty flavour and aroma. When it was first launched in 1999, it was the first smoky Irish whiskey to be produced for generations.

Unique among Irish whiskeys, Connemara is the only Irish Peated Single Malt Whiskey widely available today.I love when friends of mine travelling bring me a present of a bottle of this wonderful Irish made Whiskey. When the doors of the Kilbeggan Distillery were shut in 1953, the people of Kilbeggan could've easily accepted defeat. This Whiskey has been created to show off the traditional use of turf (peat) as a drying method in the Connemara region of Ireland.

I bought this in Dublin airport duty free and on inspection of the bottle i realise that I had stayed previously on holiday only half a mile from the distillery on the Cooley Peninsula near Dundalk (a long way from Connemara!
