About this deal

After sharpening several knives with them on a spectrum of steels, I have some observations about their performance. The quality of the products does not correspond to the premium class that the Poltava Diamond Tools plant produces today :(. You can pay using Paypal, Klarna, Credit Card, Bank Transfer, SOFORT Banking, Giropay, iDeal, Bancontact / Mister Cash.

If your going to get the Metallic stones try a 2K as well and also the Gunny Juice, the 2K Metallic CBN refines the edge much better then one would think and if you take a gently with some finishing pass's with that stone the edge won't have many burr's at all if any.

TSProf Diamond Plates provide fast metal removal and can be used for the repair of damaged cutting edges. Whether this matters or not, I don't know, all I can say for sure is, they get the job done but they aren't the aggressive cutters that I was expecting them to be based on other reviews that I read. Most of us using CBN are serious about obtaining the best edge possible and would have to do it anyway. You can run them under water or put them in water to do the flattening if you wish, but dry them off really well when you're finished. Burr based sharpening is more common and produced better results from the testing I've personally done so far.

I think the Spyderco CBN is a great deal and you may have found a 1 stone solution for your sharpening needs for a long time. I would go with the 800 CBN after the Metallic CBN 1K,also if you don't do a lot of sharpening the Venev stones in the lower grits work really well and will last a very long also, just be sure to get aluminum oxide powder to flatten them with. Most ceramic waterstones (1200 grit or below) have no trouble with many common 'supersteels' as the vast steel matrix around the carbides is soft comparatively and thus, easily cut by these ceramics.

I believe that there is not normally a "best" stone for sharpening tool steels, but more of an "it depends on what you want out of it" type of answer.

Ideal for putting an edge on knives, this stone is also the perfect choice for sharpening wood chisels, plane irons, and similar tools and comes complete with a highquality suede protective case. Ich setzte die Steine auf den Multigrinder Rev2 ein, und in Verbindung mit den CBN 80 komme ich erstaunlich schnell auf ein sehr gutes Ergebniss. Most important is that CBN is harder and has greater abrasion, thermal and chemical resistance than either synthetic diamonds (though less so than natural diamonds), silicon carbide, or aluminum oxide.

With something like a simple Naniwa Multistone 1000 : one can literally grind all day with a creamy slurry created by just a few passes of a flattening plate like an Atoma and NEVER actually reach a strong burr or sharp apex.

These perform better in my opinion and experience than electroplated diamond stones, or diamond resin bars. The metallic CBN stones also stay flat and do need flattening just etching in ferric chloride to reveal more CBN. Poltava Metallic CBN Sharpening Stones are used for sharpening knives using Hapstone, TSProf and Edge Pro sharpeners. I would also get the unmounted version of the CBN stones I have not tried them but the idea of using 3M 2 sided tape to mount them to the blank is a much better idea and an easier way to use the for etching the stones.I believe that the grit grades on these stones are ramped up to a point of not being true and correct. This is more noticeable with lower grits as the abrasive particles are larger, as you move to finer grits you're less likely to see the difference unless you are really looking for it. These have their pros/cons just like anything else, but are probably somewhat different from the resin-bonded ones. Auch ein Abrichten der Steine ist nicht mehr nötig, somit kann man sich voll auf das Schleifen konzentrieren. I tend to lubricate the surface with a drop or two of water to lower on the dust, and once I am done, I rinse to remove the steel particles and air dry it.
