In one of the Hasbro Q&A sessions, it was confirmed that these are remnants of an early design version of Galvatron, which would have been at a larger size class and featured a third mode as a "walking tank." It is still possible to manipulate his parts into a mode greatly resembling the original concept design.

Chest panels can open to insert Matrix of Leadership accessory Megatron includes "a Fusion Cannon, four alternate hands including one that holds an Energon cube," as well as an interchangeable hand holding an "Energon Mace accessory." This version of the mold was later redecoed into the original toy's colors for the e-HOBBY-exclusive Galvatron II, with a new speech clip.

All promotional photographs of this piece showed it deliberately mistransformed in vehicle mode, with the cannon left stretched above the turret, apparently to make it look more show-accurate less like a real-world tank. The left arm is molded in purple plastic to properly match the rest of the robot mode… but is then painted over in tank-mode grey paint, even though the arm is not visible in tank mode at all. The vehicle mode's wheels are molded in the same translucent orange as the cannon, and then painted over with a slightly different shade of orange.
