Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it. The imagery of the proverb accords with the growth of art and luxury in the reign of Solomon, though the Hebrews were familiar from the days of Egypt ( Exodus 3:22), and earlier ( Genesis 24:22), with ornaments of gold and silver.

The writing style bothers me immensely. It feels juvenile, especially because we are forced to sift through the Asha's every. Last. Thought. And they're the same thoughts over and over again. She loves her sister and is /so/ self sacrificing for saving her. The king is a murderous villain. Az never loved her. Dinah is the bestest, kindest sister. The king burned his wife alive and she hates him. Az would make out with her if she wasn't ugly. Over and over, alongside paragraphs of unnecessary details that add nothing to the story. I felt like I was reading through the eyes of middle- school girl rather than an almost grown adult. I never felt drawn into the story because the writing style was so distracting. I could only read a few minutes at a time before giving up. The Bible is abundantly clear that our words are important. “The tongue has the power of life and death,” says Proverbs 18:21. What we say can either destroy lives or save them (Proverbs 12:6). Jesus said, “And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you” (Matthew 12:36–37, NLT). I'm not saying this is my favorite book ever or that it's perfect, but I do believe that it's worth the read! But not far behind is the world-building and strong characterization. I immediately rooted for Asha and all she had to endure. And though I hated ( but also loved, simply for the surprise factor) all the twists and turns this story took, it kept me on my toes until the very end. It brought me to tears in some places where I could literally feel the anguish the characters were going through. asha, however, is a pure ray of light, in terrible, unrequited love for her childhood best friend (ouch), and devoted to her sister. when she hears of the king’s proclamation, she opts to sacrifice herself, knowing that the loophole to the king’s decree is that if someone offered themselves up willingly to be wed and slaughtered, the king would stop the homicidal institution forever. so what does our kind, loyal, older sister do? runs straight to the palace to offer herself merely on the offchance that her sister would be selected.

Family Discussion Questions:

is like apples of gold in pictures of silver; either like apples made of gold, and so valuable and precious; or as apples, called golden from their colour, as golden pippins, and golden rennets; or oranges, which are sometimes called golden apples: either of these in silver cases and enclosures, as Aben Ezra and Gersom interpret the word, or in a silver cup, as the Syriac version, or in silver lattices, as Maimonides, through which they may be seen, look very pleasant and delightful. The words may design, as some think, silver baskets of network (e); into which golden apples or oranges being put, and placed on a table, look very beautiful; and to such a word fitly spoken is compared. This may be applied to the word of the Gospel, as spoken by Christ, the great Prophet of the church; who has the tongue of the learned, to speak a word in season to weary souls, Isaiah 50:4; and by his ministers, who publish the Gospel, that faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation: this being the word of salvation, is fitly spoken to all sensible sinners, and must be exceeding agreeable to them; since it is of salvation from all sin, and for the chief of sinners, and entirely of free grace; includes all blessings in it, and is for ever; and since it is a proclamation of pardon of all sorts of sins and sinners, and of all their sins, and according to the riches of grace; and is also the word of reconciliation, and publishes peace to rebels, who could not make their own peace with God; and yet this is done by the blood of Christ, as the Gospel declares: and, seeing it is likewise the word of righteousness, which reveals the righteousness of Christ as justifying, when a man's own righteousness will not acquit him; and invites weary souls to Christ for rest, and therefore must be grateful to all such persons, and be esteemed as valuable as balls or apples of gold; and as pleasant and delightful to see and hear of as those set in silver baskets of network; and be as refreshing and comfortable, and as grateful to the taste, as real apples of the best kind; see Sol 2:2. It may also be applied to the promises of grace, seasonably spoken, and suitably applied by the Spirit of God; who takes the promises which are in Christ, and shows and opens them to souls in distress, at the most proper and seasonable time; and which are exceeding great and precious, yield abundance of pleasure and delight, and are very comfortable. Yea, this may be applied to the words of good men, in private conversation, either by way of counsel, or comfort, or admonition; and to every word that is with grace, and ministers grace to the hearer, and is for the use of edifying, when time, place, persons, and circumstances, are observed. Maimonides (f) thinks the external sense of the word is meant by the silver, and the internal sense by the gold; which latter is seen through, and is much better than the former. Proverbs 15:23 agrees that a word fitly spoken pleases both the speaker and listener: “A person finds joy in giving an apt reply—and how good is a timely word!” Without revealing too much I don't know if I would have forgiven Piper, I don't think Marcus knew her long enough to fall in love with her in a way that justifies his struggle about whether or not he should hate her. Seeing the typical Fae issue of not being able to lie worked around and through was fun. Kierian was a tough cookie to figure out. You didn’t know if you could trust him or not. It was fun! Some books, a lot of books for me, are "one and done" meaning I read and enjoy the story and move on because they are just fun reads. I can totally see myself reading this book again because I understand so much now! It's not a "one and done" type of book, it's a book that I can reread to glean more of the plot and characters.

This is a dual POV, clean fantasy (with a touch of romance) retelling of 1001 nights, just with Fae and magic. In this book the magic system was revealed a little more, and the Old Magic had a name… so I’ll count it as a character, I guess? PDF / EPUB File Name: A_Word_so_Fitly_Spoken_-_TA_Lawrence.pdf, A_Word_so_Fitly_Spoken_-_TA_Lawrence.epub This book gripped me from the very first chapter. The prose is exceptional 🤌 and was my favorite part about this book. This book was going to be rated by me around the 3.5 star mark, until I reached the ending. I thought for sure it was a stand-alone, and never saw the connection that was revealed at the end coming. The word fitly spoken comes from the right heart motivation, a heart consumed by love and faith. It is a word that meets the need of the day. It is a word that is carefully adjusted to the right force, the right emotion, and the right content. An adjective is selected for its appropriateness, and the verb is taken for its gentle persuasion. All of it must reflect the truth. No slander or pandering is allowed. At times, it could be a word of correction that directs itself to a particular sin that entangles a brother (verse 12). naturally, our FMC has a bit of magic inside her - a magic for storytelling, very similar to the magic that cornelia funke’s inkheart gifted us with in our youth - which comes in super handy for the whole 1001 nights retelling aspect. star - Very rare rating. Absolutely hated the book. Will never read again and I'll probably burn any copies I come across. It is a slow build and I personally like the overall story line between asha and Kiran, and of course asha magic story mother and Farin.
