About this deal

Many of the 18+ sets look great with the minimalist black background but here there is a missed opportunity to do some boxart for a structure that certainly deserves it.

This requires some care, especially on the side closest to the doorway, as it is difficult to apply 1×1 tiles to the side of a building while holding it awkwardly in the other hand. I was a little surprised how brightly it lit up the fires of our forge, even shining partially through parts we think of as being generally opaque like the orange 1x1 round tiles. It's brilliant how the designers made it so the bellows can function as an "on switch" for the light brick in the forge!Unfortunately, LEGO can’t slap a “This is going to be really hard to build” tag on the box, and they had to work retroactively. It’s a nice addition to the model, but feels like a bit of an afterthought compared to the intricately detailed building that precedes it. I think it is meant as a nod to Classic Castle, which used a lot of primary colors, but it really detracts from the finished model. And 6040 probably worked exclusively for the local military, while 6918 appears to have been forced out of business.

That means this will likely be a familiar construction process for many, at least in how you advance through its 14 numbered bags. They're not really big enough for more than a welcome mat, and the hair is probably tough and bristly. The Lego 21325 Ideas - Medieval Blacksmith set is brand new and factory-sealed, ensuring that you receive a premium quality product. Forgive us for yammering on about it with seemingly every 18+ set that rolls out of Billund, but we can’t let 21325 Medieval Blacksmith slip by without mentioning – once again – its lacklustre packaging. This neatly represents the act of forcing air into the forge to increase the rate of combustion and therefore increase heat. You won’t fly through the build, either – not because it’s incredibly complex, save for those fiddly, less structurally sound moments, but because you’ll enjoy savouring every step in what’s a real rarity of a LEGO set. I’m also interested to see how much this set builds on the classic LEGO Castle style with the detailing and minifigures. I once read an article about the development of LEGO Friends which mentioned that a girl presented with a LEGO Castle set expressed disappointment that "there's nothing inside to do" (even though boys had usually been willing to just use castles as a background or base for their medieval battles), and that reaction truly resonated with my own experiences. A small chimney juts two studs off the front side, and we start building the porch off the left side too.
