About this deal

The START vowel is typically more fronted than in upper North East varieties, thus park is typically pronounced [paːk].

After Marbula One Season 2 ended, the Hazers received an invitation from the Balls of Chaos to compete in the Cranthym Challenges that featured a mix between sports and puzzles. The tournament included some teams in Marble League such as the O'rangers, the Pinkies and the Kobalts. The team managed to get first in the first challenge, ninth in the second one, a 2nd place, a 6th-place and a 9th place followed. Then came an 8th, a 5th and an 11th. At this point the team has got 37 points and were sitting in third place. Guild of Wit were in first, the Balls of Chaos were in second and the team was tied with the Whizlers. The Hazers managed to get gold in the penultimate challenge and got 5th in the last challenge, but Whizler's gold in the final event was not enough for the team to win the tournament. The team finished the tournament in 2nd, just one point behind the Whizlers. In middle of May, Smoggy participated in Marble League 2021 Practice Race and got 11th. With Melbourne now being overrun with the smoke that previously wreaked havoc on Sydney, these masks are needed as much as ever.Smoggy appeared in their last race of the season at the Razzway GP. Smoggy ended up leading the race for all but one lap, and won their first ever Marbula One Grand Prix. The team regained their lead in the standings, 14 points clear of the Savage Speeders. Smoggy also took the lead in the individual Racers' Championship standings. Unfortunately, Hazy did not perform very well at Midnight Bay GP,finishing in 8th. Meanwhile, Speedy went on to win the race. As a result, the Hazers missed out on the Teams' Championship while Smoggy dropped to third in the final standings of the individual Racer's Championship. a b "Teesside MP uses the word "smoggie" in Parliament speech". Evening Gazette (Teesside). 11 July 2011 . Retrieved 29 September 2013. Due to the rapid growth of Teesside in the 19th century, Smoggie represents an example of new dialect formation and was influenced by Northumbrian, Yorkshire and Hiberno-English. [9] Despite its mixed origins, it is considered part of the urban North East dialect area, forming the 'Southern Urban North-Eastern English' dialect region including Hartlepool and Darlington. [10] Phonology [ edit ] But, as I said at the beginning, our language is still poetry in motion. Research by Prof Carmen Llamas Moving into the 1980s, we’re looking at some very different things and these are linked to our change in practices.

As we move through the 1960s and the 1980s we get different types of pollutant linked to different types of industry. From where I live, I’m not so sure. The Teesside accent or the East Cleveland dialect are tough old beasts, and I think will easily withstand any try-ons from the other linguistic tribes. For what it’s worth, I think the boundary between the two accents of ‘pitmatic’ Geordie and Teesside is one of the sharpest in the country. A journey across the fields for just two or three miles – from, say, Hartlepool to Horden, or Darlington to Shildon – straddles one of the great dialect boundaries in the UK. Village by village The Hazers were placed in Group A in Marble League 2021 Qualifiers. The team placed 1st after two events. To everyone's surprise, the team fell from first to last in their heat of 5 Meter Relay, finishing 10th in this event. They dropped to 5th in the standings. Smoggy's 3rd place finish in Sand Rally was enough for the team to qualify in 3rd. Final unstressed /i/ is a tense [i] rather than a lax [ɪ]. This mirrors other North Eastern dialects and contrasts with Yorkshire English.Ms Hedgley said: “What we’re looking at is getting the best air possible.” Read More Related Articles On Wednesday, Middlesbrough Council’s Economic Development, Environment and Infrastructure Scrutiny Panel heard the good news from principal public protection officer, Paul MacGregor, and Judith Hedgley, head of public protection. Despite jibes about smog, air quality in Middlesbrough is “good” and pollution is getting ever lower, a meeting has heard. Recently NE Bylines ran a piece on so-called ‘malapropisms’ and how they accidentally shape our way of speaking. And that got me thinking about how our language constantly evolves. Just listen to any newsreel recording from the 1940s or 1950’s – just a lifetime away. The strangled vowels of their received pronunciation (RP) English seem to be thousands of miles away from what we hear around us nowadays. Cllr Vic Walkington, Labour councillor for Ayresome, said: “When I’ve looked at all your graphs they all seem to be trending down quite happily.

She added that future changes such as a move towards electric cars would have the effect of reducing the figures further and that, as an environmental health officer, she would always recommend trying to reduce levels of pollutants. We should be getting that out not only to the people of Middlesbrough but people outside of the town to say ‘come to Middlesbrough, it’s a healthier place to live than quite a lot of places’.” Read More Related Articles a b c Beal, Joan C. (2012). Urban North-eastern English: Tyneside to Teesside (Dialects of English). Edinburgh University Press. The phoneme /aɪ/ (as in prize) may become a monophthong [ɑː] before a voiced consonant. For example, five becomes [fɑːv] (fahve), prize becomes [pʰɹɑːz] (prahze). This does not occur before voiceless consonants, so "price" is [pʰɹaɪs]. [13] The Hazers come from an unspecified region within East Asia. In fact, the team's origins are shrouded in mystery. No one has been able to get any leads on the team's origins, either from the team themselves or from outside sources, although in early 2019, a journalist discovered a Hazers souvenir shop south of Hunluen. Hazers have indeed been hesitant to talk about their origin, claiming the topic is unimportant. But they insist that they know who they are and what they are doing in the Marble League.

Hancox, Dan (10 September 2009). "How is Britain coping with the recession? - Middlesbrough - Smoggies steel themselves". New Statesman . Retrieved 2 October 2013. So whilst our grandparents talk about the London smog and soot, when we move to people who are middle-aged it’s things like taking the lead out of petrol, talk about acid rain, these were the types of pollutant we were looking at. We know, wearing P2 masks isn’t something Aussies are used to. But then again, we aren’t used to having our air quality compared to the folks in countries who need to wear them, either,” the GoFundMe says. This has made me look at the town in a different way because it is a good place to live and it is a healthier place to live. Then, as a local, there are the internal subtleties. The lingo of East Cleveland, although linked, is still totally recognisable from that of downtown Middlesbrough or Eston. And, even a few decades ago, someone with a sharp ear could still make a fairly good guess as to which town or village a person came from just by their voice. Then, the Loftus accent was not the Guisborough twang, and what was said in Brotton was not the same thing as Lingdale chat. I guess the same was and is very much the case in Co Durham, or on the Wear, Tyne and the Tees. Many rootsHarley, Shaun (16 October 2007). " 'I was made in Middlesbrough' ". BBC News . Retrieved 2 October 2013. Marco Del Castillo, a Smoggys Founder, said: “It is down to the support of our nation, that Smoggys has come to life as an operating business, set to make a real difference. With the fires continuing to rage, the smoke blanketing our skies and our volunteers out there giving it their all, the launch of Smoggys couldn’t have come any sooner. Like most North East dialects, the definite article is always full and never reduced to t' as in the Yorkshire dialect. The P2 masks will protect you as much as possible from the toxic particles we’re all currently inhaling while showing your support for the people that are actively trying to fight the fires. So Nitrogen dioxide - very much linked with transport - and also more about particulates which are very, very, very small particles of matter which can be inhaled and also can enter our blood stream and have much wider effects.”
