When you choose a symbolic animal adoption, you generously support WWF’s global conservation efforts. Rain washes sediment from construction into the ocean where it pollutes the turtle’s feeding grounds. Flatbacks nest solely along the northern coast of Australia, and live on the continental shelf between Australia, southern Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. Turtles are not found in the Arctic or Antarctic oceans as these environments are far too cold for reptiles. By adopting a turtle you can help fund WWF’s efforts in its fight against climate change and hopefully mitigate its impact on a species that is at serious risk of disappearing.
Every year over 250,000 marine turtles drown by becoming entangled in fishing lines and nets that choke the world's oceans. WWF seeks to stop habitat destruction, prevent human animal conflict, end the illegal trade in wildlife and their body parts as part of its efforts to protect wildlife.These programs are helping to save the turtles by educating government about land development issues that affect nesting and feeding grounds. Turtles normally swim near the surface of the ocean where they are often killed by boat propeller accidents. This exciting pack includes easy-to-follow instructions – simply register online or by post to adopt a turtle and receive a supporter certificate. To reach adulthood, they must survive against all odds as it is estimated that approximately 1 in 1,000 sea turtle hatchlings make it to adulthood.
