About this deal

Mr Gum and the Secret Hideout is the eighth in the internationally bestselling series by Andy Stanton, which has won everything from the Blue Peter Book Award (twice) to the Roald Dahl Funny Prize and the Red House Children’s Book Award. The books have been translated into over 25 languages worldwide, and have sold over 4 million copies.

Children's books about miserly, nasty, no good, rotten old men go one of two ways. Either the old man is redeemed at the end and Tiny Tim lives, etc. etc. or you get to the end of the book and the miserly, nasty, no good, rotten old man hasn't changed a jot. He's just been thwarted. A kind of Count Olaf ending, if you will. The nice thing about Andy Stanton's Mr. Gum books is that they're written with a two-dimensional villain in place with whom you never, at any point, sympathize. Stanton is a fan of goofiness and is willing to pile a whole bunch of weirdness on top of itself in the hopes that there will be enough funny material to keep the kids ah-reading. For the most part, You're a Bad Man, Mr. Gum! works and even when it doesn't it just seems to be so pleased with itself that you can't help but feel some affection for it. This isn't the strongest silly book for kids I've ever read, but it has its heart in the right place. Good evening. Talking parrots in the rooftops? A giant cactus on the high street? Mosquitoes so nasty that even their own friends don’t like them? Something’s gone terribly wrong in Lamonic Bibber… and Mr Gum is nowhere to be found. The books have won numerous prizes including the 2007 Red House Children's Book Award, two Blue Peter Book Awards for Best Book With Pictures, [5] and the inaugural Roald Dahl Funny Prize in 2008 for Mr Gum and the Dancing Bear. So strap yourselves in, cry ‘HI-HO-WEIRDY!’ and get ready for an adventure so crazy your feet will melt with happiness! And I’m not just saying that, I’ve actually seen it happen. HOORAY!You’re a Bad Man, Mr Gum! is the first in the internationally bestselling series by Andy Stanton, which has won everything from the Blue Peter Book Award (twice) to the Roald Dahl Funny Prize and the Red House Children’s Book Award. The books have been translated into over 25 languages worldwide, and have sold over 4 million copies. Good evening, brave listener. But are you brave enough to join Polly and Friday as they climb Goblin Mountain to battle the forces of evil? Good evening and welcome to a tale of forests! Of dreadful villains! Of caterpillars called Graham! And of a great big BEEFER of a cherry tree! a b Farry, Elthne (16 March 2008). "Rising star: Andy Stanton, Children's writer". the Guardian . Good evening, children, on this dark and windy night. Now, come gather round the fireplace, for ‘tis time for strange tales to be spun. The fifth fabulously funny Mr Gum story by Andy Stanton, read by the author and with music and sound effects. A fantastic book for boys and girls aged 7-10 years old In 2022, the Magdeburg Theater staged a stage version of "Mr Gum and the Cherry Tree", [7] followed in 2023 by "Mr Gum and the Secret Hideout". [8] Other books [ edit ] The eighth exceptionally entertaining Mr Gum story, read by the author and with music and sound effects. A fantastic book for boys and girls aged 7-10 years old Herra Gummi -sarjan ensimmäinen osa on ihan kiva ja nopsalukuinen pläjäys, täynnä mahtavaa nonsense-huumoria ja kielellä leikittelyä.

Mr Gum's nastiness was foiled. The big whopper of a dog did not die of poison. All was well.

And there’s a funfair and hot dogs, and Friday O’Leary shouts out some crazy stuff, and... hey, that wasn’t so hard to describe after all! See ya! a b Chilton, Martin (26 September 2011).
