About this deal

KS2 Science is designed to develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding of the core scientific subjects; Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Teachers will be tasked with laying the foundations for processes and methods that will be used by their students in later life. Core subjects within science at KS2 include the living world, human body, materials and forces. The games we play online tend to be modern first person shooters. Not that I particularly love the quality of them, but they’re just accessible and it’s the sort of consensus. Being quite competent in first person shooters we went straight for the N64 GoldenEye. We were terrible at it. I could not believe the control system was as it was on the N64 until you start trying to play it again. And so there is that funny thing about nostalgia when nostalgia meets reality.

Each of these subjects has a whole world of classroom games for you to really make KS2 science fun for your students. We’ve created the ultimate list of science games for KS2 to help you put together the best lesson plan possible. 8 KS2 science games and activities for kids MC: For Power Up we reached out and we have got a really dedicated volunteer base of people who are there to just engage with the public, to encourage them to have fun, to talk about the consoles. Some of them have got particular niche interests. Some of them are more generalists. One of them is probably the most expert person I know on BBC Micros.Electricity is fundamental in the modern world. In KS2 your students will be learning the basics of how electricity works and the Science Musuem’s ‘Launchball’ is the perfect way to test their electrical science knowledge. Get this game up on your interactive whiteboard and challenge your students to get the ball rolling across the levels, using electricity, wind and other energy to do so. Earth and space: Stargazing Live – BBC Venture into the dark, explore different locations and meet new characters – creating your own unique adventure as you play! MC: And I think we we’re starting to get over that, but I hope a gallery like that, and an experience like that can help start breaking down those boundaries. You can see in that space it is about positive play. It’s about interacting, it’s about socialising, in really positive ways. It’s about engaging with content, with narratives. It’s about challenging yourself and learning new skills. I think there’s so much positive to come from gaming. MC: I think people are starting to switch on to this and there was something I read the other day about the government putting some funding behind research into gaming, particularly for academic bodies, universities. And you’re right, that space does feel like it could be a perfect place for that study to happen. MC: My job title is Head of Commercial Experiences. I’m in charge of all the paid-for experiences that visitors get to do in the group, but it’s a personal passion of mine, that relates to gaming. Power Up existed before me, but I really have wanted to steer it in a different way and make it a bigger thing and a more Science Museum thing. But I can’t take full credit for it. There’s, there’s a whole team of people behind it. We’ve got curators and interpretation writers…

m sorry to say this, but this is more beautifull than all the other ball-pyysics-games in the competition. GC: I understand – I’m all for it – but if I did have a criticism, it would be that the role of arcades and portable consoles did seem underplayed. There were also surprisingly few 8- or 16-bit consoles overall, outside of a few instances. I always find it funny when kids see these games and they exhibit genuine pity that that’s what we used to have to put up with. MC: [laughs] Certainly not. Power Up is really about being accessible for everyone and you can bring a family into that space and it’s suitable for five and over. But we do have a bimonthly adult late session, where we take over the whole museum after hours and it’s for 18s and over and they get to enjoy the museum. It’s a very sort of festival environment; we do lots of pop-ups and different things. Playing ball is a phrase with many meanings, and this category includes “playing ball” in every circumstance where it is possible. In the US, playing ball may refer to playing baseball. Science makes up an exciting part of Key Stage Two. Not only is this a time of discovery for very young children, but early science lessons are full of fun and immersive activities, perfect for an interactive display.Cause I was very adamant that I didn’t want us to be a place where consoles come to die. They probably come for a life longer than they ever expected. [laughs] Soccer Legends 2021 is an excellent example of a popular ball game that uses simple and fun mechanics to create a memorable gaming experience. Basket Bros is a similarly styled basketball game.
