About this deal

Habitat: Very rare. Mainly found on a few sandy heaths in Dorset, Hampshire and Surrey, although a couple of reintroduced populations exist in West Sussex and Devon. This is one of the multiple crested lizards of the region. Its crest is mostly bright blue, as are its head and front legs. Juveniles have blue legs and tails, while males may include orange, gravid females also have orange coloration around the jaw. 15. Desert Spiny Lizard

In addition to the six native reptiles, several species of non-native reptile can be found in the UK – these include the wall lizard, green lizard, aesculapian snake, European pond terrapin and the red-eared slider. Azure-tailed Skinks (Emoia impar) have azure tails. These light blue tail skinks are now established in Hawaii. However, this also makes it a bit worrying when it comes to white cast – my fears were confirmed when I first applied it: T. g. gigas, Giant blue-tongued skink; T. g. evanescens, Merauke blue-tongued skink; T. g. keyensis, Key Island blue-tongued skink These lizards may have striking blue tails that stay blue their entire lives, they may only have blue tails when they are juveniles or they may have a splash or dot of blue that makes them unique. 1. A bright blue nuance is seen on its lower body, hind legs, and tail. The tip of its tail is already gray-brown, with just a few hints of blue. Unfortunately, blue-tongues will eat snails and slugs poisoned by snail baits and can be poisoned themselves. Care should be taken in using snail baits and insecticides when blue-tongues are living in a garden. Blue-tongues can squeeze through small holes in and under fences, and garden pests can also cross fences, so chemicals used by neighbours can also affect your blue-tongue. The desert spiny lizard (Sceloporus magister) can be found in the Sonoran Desert of North America, it is also common in Arizona, Texas, California, and New Mexico along with a number of Mexican states.Department for Environment and Heritage > Pygmy Bluetongue Lizard - fact sheet, Environment.sa.gov.au, retrieved 18 July 2017
