Favianna Rodriguez – To Oakland with Love, 2013 Broken Fingaz is a collective of very original street artists from Haifa City who do wall paintings, graffitis and T-shirt designs. Founded over a decade ago by Unga, Broken Fingaz has been painting streets and walls of the world’s major cities such as London, Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Beijing and many others. Different printmaking techniques evolved from there. By 1477 Flemish artists produced the first intaglio printing, and by the 1660s, the Germans invented the mezzotint process. The creation of the aquatint method and lithographs would come in the late 1700s through the mid-1800s. In the early 20th century, screenprinting was invented and popularized by Pop artists like Andy Warhol, Peter Blake, and Robert Rauschenberg. They have spent more than one year traveling with 50 exclusive prints by 50 extraordinary artists and designers across 7 countries to put their work on show. Their recent exhibition was held in our hood at The Book Club in London. This is just a glimpse of printmaking history. Let’s take a look at a few ways this exciting process can make its way into your classroom!
