About this deal
As you may have noticed, both of these tires come with similar materials. But, the secret uniqueness of each lies in the way in which it’s manufactured. Fast and reliable, the Continental Gator Hardshell DuraSkin is the tyre for hardcore urban cyclists and commuters. The levels of puncture protection offered with the PolyX Breaker layer and Hardshell protection are incredible and the tyre is fast rolling too. The Continental Gator Hardshell DuraSkin is modelled on our famous Gatorskin race bike tyre The Gatorskin is usually more lightweight at 240 grams, while the Hardshell weighs 270 grams or so. Gatorskin tires are no less than Gator Hardshell when it comes to tough conditions. In fact, they might be considered better.
Hardshell: Puncture protection and mileage are the strengths of Hardshell protection. When we compare the Gator Hardshell to all other road bike tires that have been tested by us, it now takes the title as the most puncture resistant road bike tire. The Gator Hardshell replaces the Pirelli Cinturato Velo TLR ( read review) that also scored 20 points in the tread test but only scored 7 points in the sidewall test. Quality is without doubt one of the most important factors that we consider when buying bikes, parts, accessories or clothing. As you’d imagine it’s especially important when buying Tyres. Let’s take at a look at the sort of things you can look at when trying to ascertain the quality of Continental Gator Hardshell Road Bike Tyre.
The Continental GatorSkin has two special features, which are Polyx Breaker® and a Duraskin® Sidewall Protection. Polyx refers to a highly resistant, crosswise woven polyester fibre that, originally, has only been used for car tyres. This high density fabric makes the breaker more resistant without affecting the fastness of the tyre. The Duraskin external mesh, then, adds another layer of lightweight but durable protection. It effectively shields the tyre from harsh weather conditions and rough roads, which might otherwise cause cuts and abrasions. Cheap Road Tyres One is the traditional size like 700x28c or 27.5x2.2. The first figure is the tyre diameter(size). The second is tyre width. Note: road bike sizes are in mm, MTB sizes are in inches. This long-lasting tire is unique because it’s designed and constructed based on a unique folded mechanism. This makes for a resistant and stable tire that’s resistant to all sorts of foreign bodies, bumps, and crashes. My regular commute is about the same length as yours, but leads to an infrequent train and the time is dominated by traffic conditions, so most days I take the bike with the toughest tyres - a puncture makes me an hour late if it delays me 5 minutes. So marathon plus (or ice spike winter tyres). But I don't worry if I take the other bike so I can have a ride on the way home. Punctures on the gators are still very rare. I fitted mine in August, swapped them for something more rugged in late December, and did 3-4000km in between with no punctures. I'd rather have tougher tyres on that bike than faster ones. I don't race, but don't enjoy fixing punctures in the dark and wet, many hours into the ride - which is when I get them. The traction factor: Excellent when on dry hard-surface, good when wet, good in gravel and dirt. Like I said, MUCH better that I expected from a "durable" tire.Added sidewall protection ensures that the tires stay in one piece even in the harshest conditions. As we said in the pricing part of the review, brand is a really important consideration, but especially so when looking to buy Tyres. But as you’re probably already aware, you’re on to a great choice if you do go with Continental, as they’re a fantastic brand, making amazing products. The tubeless GP 5000 is available in 25, 28 and 32mm widths, plus a 28mm wide 650B version. Our samples of the 25mm versions weighed an average of 302g each; we've seen reliable reports of 295g samples too. That's heavier than some comparable tubeless-ready tyres (a 25mm Schwalbe Pro One weighs about 255g) because Continental has gone for a fully tubeless construction with an airtight rubber layer on the inside. Continental is one of the market leaders when it comes to durable tyres. Its additional protective features have made it the most popular road tyre brand in the UK. This tyre, in particular, has great grip, guarantees high mileage and works well all year round. Its highly resistant rubber tread is made in Germany from natural materials. In addition, it is available in various sizes and is comparatively lightweight. Polyx Breaker and Duraskin
