About this deal

Any person that reads this book will be able to relate to Baby in one way or another and if you’re of Indian heritage you’ll see a lot of yourself in baby. It is important that we continue to promote these adverts as our local businesses need as much support as possible during these challenging times.

I couldn't put the book down once I started following Baby's journey and devoured it yesterday afternoon. It was a gruelling journey and she uses this so well to take Baby there and leave her to delve into her own past. One name that is synonymous with children’s publishing in the 21st century is Julia Donaldson, whose lyrical picture books have sold over 17 million copies worldwide and become undeniable modern classics – including The Gruffalo, Room On The Broom and What The Ladybird Heard. So a brave book, a wise and witty book, a book that confronts the shame Rani feels telling some of it and tells it anyway, that follows an actual journey she seems to have made in writing it.

Her grandfather’s story is heartbreaking, and I appreciate that both sides of his person are shown, the before and the after, illustrating the effects of his experience. And this little boy, I mean, it’s an amazing story, I’m not gonna give it away, because you need to read the book, but all the other sons tried to get the throne. By addressing the reasons why so many Punjabis left India/Pakistan during Partition, Rani has opened up a sad story which also looks into prejudice on religious and caste grounds, not just about race. It could easily be a little longer, as some elements feel a little rushed, however, and those expecting a murder mystery will be disappointed. Fizzing with energy, hilarity and charm, the Sunday Times bestseller from Countryfile's Anita Rani:'Beautiful' Caitlin Moran'Brilliant' Lemn Sissay'Filled with hope' Nikesh ShuklaAnita Rani was a girl who didn't fit in anywhere.

But she is still getting over the loss of her beloved father - and when she discovers letters belonging to her grandfather that suggest there is family history that has never been discussed, she decides it is time to visit India and learn more about her family. This all makes it sound quite heavy but it’s a much lighter book than it might seem – and of course, there’s the blossoming romance with Sid. Melissa Cox said: ‘It has been tremendous fun working with Anita on this book which is full of the trademarks that make her such a beloved broadcaster – it is funny, moving and gives a voice to those who always feel slightly out of place, no matter how hard they try. I absolutely loved listening to the author narrate her own book, she did it incredibly well and it really brought a new dimension to the listen.
