About this deal

I had the enfield locks many years ago on a garage, great bits of kit but just make sure you drill the holes perfectly square to the fixing rod otherwise it can cause issues. My neighbour even came over to have a look and bought two sets (one for each corner) to protect his expensive bikes. Short of using a petrol powered angle grinder or a transit van to rip the door and frame away from the blocks I think it was pretty secure. Some sort of beam bolted to the door and bolted at the sides may delay such a break-in by a minute or two, and make it noisier.

I have a hasp and staple and a padlock on mine, top centre, BUT, whilst the security looks fairly minimal, they are top quality kit, made of very good materials. Damage to the car ( standing on front to get back out ) ended up at a 4K insurance job What on earth did they take or thought was so valuable in the garage to do that? Some people put a padlock on the bottom and they worked out how to fold back the corner of the door - probably not enough to get a bike out of but certainly enough to steal tools. Got the Enfield bolts on mine, easy to fit but personally think 2 pairs would be more effective - top and bottom on each side.

Just to note that padlocks at the top didn’t work around our way- they just levered up the bottom, bending the door. The Defender ones, the ones that fit onto the ground and have a metal bar that goes up against the door, whilst I'm sure they are good, they do, to me anyway, SHOUT "There's something really expensive in here" to anyone. Absolute f king pain in the arse, especially in the pouring rain or when you've forgotten something or left it in the garage and need to go back. It was a sod to fit but that's not the bolts fault, as expected fitting the locks onto a metal up and over garage door is bound to be fiddly!

hours per lock to fit but most of this is time spent measuring and ensure that the lock is fitted in the correct location and that the bolt locates in the best position. Edited by bluezedd on Wednesday 18th March 12:40The garage is in a close, but its just off a busy road so its not really concealed or "out of the way" if that makes sense.

Does anyone know if there is any difference between these two brands, their key quality, security etc? On my up and over, the manufacturer's mechanism locks into the sides, so this gives me 4-point locking. One thing I discovered is that my keys would only go in one way even though it is a four sided key so it took a bit of fiddling as I was expecting it to fit in any orientation - not something I was expecting but OK once I'd got used to it.
