About this deal

Weight: the mean weight for this dog breed is about 60- 70 pounds / 27- 33 kilograms. They are not prone to obesity.

Lurcher crosses are incredibly intelligent and well-tempered dogs. They inherit the best of both parent breeds, with the mild manner of Sighthound breeds being typical for them. They are very affectionate and make excellent family dogs. They are also very easy to train, all the more so if they are trained early in life. Barbour, Thomas 1909. Their training has to start early because it would be a mistake to wait until a dog is 6 months old. With this said a Lurcher should never be trusted with any food that may be left out because they would not be able to resist helping themselves to it. In short these handsome dogs are known to be "thieves" at heart no matter how well trained they happen to be. Are they a good choice for first time owners? A lot of vets these days recommend waiting until dogs are slightly older before spaying and neutering them which means they are more mature before undergoing the procedures As such they advise neutering males and spaying females when they are between the ages of 6 to 9 months old and sometimes even when a dog is 12 months old which is the case for Lurchers. Anyone who has any concerns as to when a dog should be spayed or neutered should discuss things with a vet. What about obesity problems? But even then, they instinctively tend to want to hunt animals that are smaller than them and react inspire their training to sudden movements in their vicinity. This is a tendency that also makes them unparalleled ratters on farmsteads. TAKEUCHI, HIROHIKO; HIDETOSHI OTA FLS,, HONG-SHIK OH and TSUTOMU HIKIDA 2012. Conformation: Because of the wide range of breeds that are lurcher can be bred from, the physical features of this breed can differ from each other. Typically, they are very athletically built dogs with long limbs and Iean muscled bodies. They have a characteristic deep chest and a long narrow head and muzzle, with triangular ears or even drop shaped ears in some cases. Other triggers could include the following all of which would need to be eliminated before finding out which is the cause of a dog's allergic reaction: They also tend to be fairly economical to keep too, although larger lurchers will cost more to feed and provide with accessories than smaller ones. They are really fastLurchers are not specific crosses but are usually the result of a pastoral dog, so one that is used for farming or traditional agricultural roles e.g. a Collie, Terrier or Sheepdog, mating with a sighthound, typically a Greyhound. Whilst one of the breeds used to produce a lurcher is by definition a greyhound, the other breed can be a dog of any type, which ultimately means that any two lurchers might be quite different in terms of their appearances, temperaments, and core traits. Bone cancers like osteosarcoma as are typical to the lurcher breed. These are malignant and rapidly spreading aggressive cancers of bones. Usually by the time of diagnosis, the Cancer has spread to a terminal stage, at which point surgery or chemotherapy is of very little use. Lurchers have the benefit of hybrid vigour, and they tend to be fairly healthy dogs that usually live for around 12-15 years, although this can of course vary considerably from dog to dog.

Plummer, David Brian (1979). The Complete Lurcher: a manual. Woodbridge, Suffolk, Eng.: Boydell Press. ISBN 0-85115-118-3. OCLC 15674881. Thanks to their greyhound ancestry and sighthound traits, a lurcher in full gallop is a very fast dog, and they can easily outrun people and the vast majority of other dogs, other than some other sighthounds.

Personality

Lurchers form strong ties with their owners and never like it when they find themselves on their own for any length of time which is why they are better suited to people who lead active outdoor lives and would like a loyal and high-energy canine companion at their side. What about excessive barking? It cannot be stressed strongly enough the importance of socialising a Lurcher from a young age so they grow up to be more outgoing confident mature dogs. If they are not well socialised Lurchers can be a little shy. A timid Lurcher can often show a more aggressive side to their natures which is something to be avoided at all costs. Some Lurchers may suffer degrees of heart issues, particularly if they are larger than usual. They are also very sensitive to some drugs, which your vet will be aware of. All reputable Lurcher breeders would always ensure their puppies vaccinated before they are sold but as previously mentioned it is up to their new owners to make sure they are given their follow-up shots at the right time which should be as follows:

Getting the home ready for a Lurcher puppy's arrival takes a bit of time and planning because it is essential that their new environment is safe for them to be in. Lurcher puppies are extremely playful and boisterous which can make their education a little more challenging than in other breeds and it also means that valuables need to be put safely away to avoid breakages. It's also a good idea to put electric cables and wires out of a puppy's reach because they might decide to chew them which could end up with an expensive trip to the vet. Lurchers are very lean and compactly built dogs. They belong to the category of long dogs with elongated features and body shape. Lurchers are now treasured as family pets and have more or less departed from their role as a hunting dog. They’re very affectionate and love to be around humans and are particularly well known for their docility around children of all ages. Wallach, Van; Kenneth L. Williams , Jeff Boundy 2014. Snakes of the World: A Catalogue of Living and Extinct Species. [type catalogue] Taylor and Francis, CRC Press, 1237 pp.Lurchers have an extremely high prey drive having been bred to "hunt" which is a trait deeply embedded in a dog's psyche. Even in a home environment a Lurcher would need to "express" themselves as they should for them to be truly happy well-rounded characters. What about playfulness? Emma Griffin (2007). Blood Sport: Hunting in Britain since 1066. New Haven; London: Yale University Press A lurcher is a crossbred dog resulting from mating a greyhound or other sighthound with a dog of another type such as a herding dog or a terrier. The lurcher was for hundreds of years strongly associated with poaching; in modern times, it is kept as a hunting dog or companion dog. Lurchers are not a good choice for first time dog owners because although they are lovely dogs by nature training a Lurcher can prove challenging at the best of times. As such they are better suited to people who are familiar with the breed and their specific needs. What about prey drive? Ota, Hidetoshi, Szu-Lung Chen, Jun-Tsong Lin and Michihisa Toriba. 1999.
