Rogers, P. J., Tsolos, A., and Boyle, M.K. 2020. South Australian Charter Boat Fishery Data Summary. Final Report to PIRSA Fisheries and Aquaculture. South Australian Research and Development Institute (Aquatic Sciences), Adelaide. SARDI Publication No. F2007/000847-6. 19 pp. Walker, Terence I. (2007-02-21). "Spatial and temporal variation in the reproductive biology of gummy shark Mustelus antarcticus (Chondrichthyes: Triakidae) harvested off southern Australia". Marine and Freshwater Research. 58 (1): 67–97. doi: 10.1071/MF06074. ISSN 1448-6059. Fishers in South Australia’s commercial multi-species, multi-gear and multi-sectoral Marine Scalefish Fishery (MSF) take Gummy Shark as bycatch when targeting Snapper and other species using demersal long-lines, gill-nets and hand-lines. The total reported catch of Gummy Shark by the MSF in 2018–19 was 80 t. Gummy Sharks are also targeted by clients of the South Australian Charter Fishery [Rogers et al. 2020] and by the recreational fishery [Steer et al. 2020]. The South Australian State-wide recreational catch of Gummy Shark was estimated at approximately 37 t in 2013–14 [Giri and Hall 2015]. Like several other species of sharks, these sharks have counter-shaded coloring, i.e., their upperside is darkly colored to make it hard to spot them from above, while their underside is much lighter, making them more challenging to identify from below. This has led to the gummy shark having very few predators, with only the broadnose gill shark preying on juvenile specimens regularly. Interactions with humans a b c d e f g h i j k l White, W. contains no more than 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), according to the certificate of analysis (COA) Gummy sharks are found to be mostly bottom dwellers in the waters around southern Australia, from Shark Bay in Western Australia to Port Stephens in New South Wales, from the surface down to a depth of 350m (1,150ft) in moderate-temperature water. The reproduction of the single-sex school gummy sharks is ovoviviparous. [8] Ovoviviparous organisms are those who produce young via egg which are then hatched inside of the parents' bodies. A common example of an ovoviviparous animal is a seahorse. Gummy sharks have an ovulation and mating period that lasts about three months from November–February. The gestation period in this species is between eleven and twelve months. The embryos can get to be thirty to thirty-six centimeters total in length. Pregnant gummy sharks will rely on inshore nursery areas such as a bay or sheltered space close to shore to have her pups. [9] Females can have up to 57 pups per litter and are ready to do so by the age of five. [1] The average number of pups per litter birthed by the female Mustelus antarcticus is 14 but can have up to 57. [4] [1] The sex ratio in the embryos is 1:1. [10] Male sharks are ready to reproduce by the age of four. The typical generation length for the gummy shark is 10 years and have an average life expectancy of 16 years. Products made with broad-spectrum CBD contain most cannabinoids, plus other cannabis compounds, but they generally don’t contain THC. Distribution: More common around the south and west of England, but the range appears to be increasing.Hunting Gummy sharks feed on crustaceans, cephalopods, small fish, and worms. They hunt at night and use their teeth to crush their prey for easy consumption. Migratory The distance these sharks travel depends on their age and sex, with adults swimming longer distances than juveniles and females traveling further than their male counterparts. Reproductive They are ovoviviparous, giving live birth to 14- 57 pups after a gestation period of 11-12 months. The mating and ovulation period is about three months, generally from November to February. The newly borns usually have a ratio of 1:1 between males and females. Male gummy sharks become sexually mature at four years, while females are capable of reproducing at around six years of age. The average lifespan of a gummy shark is 16 years. Adaptations

We stopped harvesting whales for that very reason. Why is it different for a shark? Why is it different for a fish? a b Winkler, Alexander C.; Butler, Edward C.; Attwood, Colin G.; Mann, Bruce Q.; Potts, Warren M. (2022-03-01). Boag said the consumer watchdog, the ACCC, was clear that customers can not be misled and if three quarters of the flake being sold failed to meet the standard “then we think that’s misleading customers.”They're considered dangerous to humans as they eat anything and everything, can be found in shallower waters than their larger counterparts, and often feed at night. Bronze whaler School sharks are a slender, grey to bronze shark with a pale underside. The underside of the head, near their snout tip, is often translucent!

Grey gummy sharks have large eyes which are elongate-oval in shape. [3] Like many animals, the grey gummy shark is also found to have nictitating lower eyelids and deep sub-ocular pouches. [3] It is said that nictitating eyelids may be used to protect the animal's eye or help moisten it and maintain visibility underwater particularly since the grey gummy shark lives in the twilight zone. [7] Reproduction [ edit ] This species is a slender shark with a darker grey top with white spots and a silvery-white underbelly. [3] The gummy shark gets its name from its flat, plate-like teeth which it uses to crush its shelled and non-shelled prey. Male gummy sharks can reach a maximum length of 157cm (62in), and females can reach up to 175cm (69in). The minimum size of a grown male or female is 45cm (18in). At birth, these sharks measure between 30 and 35cm. [4] Said measurements are taken from the rear-most gill slit to the base of the tail fin.

The gummy shark is primarily found living on the southern coast of Australia around Bunbury including but not limited to the island of Tasmania and the Bass Strait. [6] Gummy sharks are also found in coastal areas of the Pacific Ocean such as Japan, as well as coastal areas of the Indian Ocean. [7] Reproductive tendencies [ edit ] He said: “Accurate seafood labelling is simply a non-negotiable, duping the consumer and passing off any shark species as ‘flake’ is like passing off red meat from cows, pigs, lamb, horses and kangaroo all as beef.” The best bet is to go for a full- or broad-spectrum product made with organic hemp grown in the United States. Hemp grown in the United States is subject to agricultural regulations, and it can’t contain more than 0.3% THC.

He added that stringent measures were in place for school shark populations under the conservation-dependent listing.
