Introverts beware! That Sound Game is a party game that makes you look silly. Leaving you hanging for what feels like hours, trying to sound out a divorce, or an air conditioner. Because as it turns out, guessing clues from sounds alone is surprisingly challenging.

This carries on for a minute before it’s the next team’s go. During that minute though, other teams are allowed to take a guess using their Steal Cards.One thing That Sound Game does better than Monikers is audience participation. As in the latter game, when it’s not your turn, you’re relegated to being a viewer only. Whereas in That Sound Game, you have Steal Cards. For example, whenever you pass, the other teams score a point. This puts you in the awkward spot of not wanting to pass, and instead wanting your team to guess your impression of a xylophone, even when it’s clear they’re not going to.

However, that’s the worst of it. When you collectively overcome the sound-only barrier and start to guess clues, That Sound Game feels great. Measuring up to my all-time favourite party game of this genre: Monikers, another game that works well by itself but is better when paired with a bit to drink and over-energetic friends. When the call for reviewers went out for That Sound Game, I knew I had to jump on it. My group starts game night with the intention of playing a board game, but always ends up as a makeshift foley session instead. Although, even if you’re feeling self-conscious, That Sound Game doesn’t leave you out to dry. As you’re only on stage for a minute, before it’s someone else’s turn.
