About this deal

I finally found a pair that has "Hi-Vis" coloring; previous pairs were mostly black with reflective elements. While visually the pogies may look bulky and awkward, in reality putting the wind barrier over the grips, shifters, and brake levers in their entirety means that you have a more natural feel for the controls, equivalent to normal summer riding. But I take back any side-eyeing I’ve ever done because they are indeed incredibly effective and I have now become a "pogie" user. All in all, I was thoroughly impressed with the warmth and shelter the Bar Mitts provide and looks be damned, these will surely become a staple for many winter rides to come. Bar Mitts offers sizes Small through XL, so it all comes down to one’s preference, the temperature you’ll be riding in, mechanical vs electronic shifting, and the size of your hands and bulkiness of your gloves.

Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). mm thick neoprene with nylon laminated on each side, and are double stitched along the fold creating a good wind tight seal. I've been having good luck with a thin pair of gloves underneath a heavy pair of ski gloves a size too big. It made some of my night rides almost enjoyable, since my hands had a comfortable, warm and dry environment, which was isolated from the outdoor realities. Mind you, I’ve only tested that feature in my garage, but there’s more space all around to support this. One has a zipper opening for the side-exit shift cable in older Shimano shifters, while the style for Campy, SRAM, and newer Shimano shifters with internally routed cables does not have a zipper opening.

But when I do find my new lower limit for the temperature I’ll bike in, the warmth of my hands won’t be the limiting factor. The Bar Mitts solve both of my issues, as I get to wear lighter gloves for greater tactile feel and dexterity, and my hands stay warm. With a wide opening to accommodate your coat sleeves, you’ll be able to place your hands in and out at a moment’s notice. Just remember that you suddenly have a much larger side profile, and you should be fine, but I could feel a difference in handling the bike in 10-15 mph crosswinds. When temperatures drop below freezing, it can take a mighty thick pair of gloves or mittens to keep your hands warm.
