About this deal

The Far-Flung Adventure series includes the Gold Smarties Prize Winner Fergus Crane, and Corby Flood and Hugo Pepper, both Silver Nestle Prize Winners. Wenn ich das Buch jetzt rein für Kinder bewerten würde, könnte ich 4 Sterne vergeben, aber mir persönlich hat es leider nicht so gefallen. The Gloamglozer tempts Twig into living a life as a Gloamglozer himself, having failed to fit in anywhere else, and reveals that he had been influencing Twig's journey all along in the guise of a slaughterer, gyle goblin, male trog and flathead goblin. Twig sat on the floor between his mother’s knees, and curled his toes in the thick fleece of the tilder rug. In one of the chapters you meet a big Beast (the one on the Front of the book) that becomes a main Character and you start to love him and then love him more AND THEN HE DIES!

From the mountainous Banderbear who becomes Twig's best friend, to the murderous Wig-wigs and the hideous all-female tribe of the Termagant Frogs, Beyond the Deepwoods sows the seeds of magic and adventure in the imagination, and lets them grow in the most exotic corners of the reader's mind. His adoptive mother tells him to travel to their cousin's house to mull things over, but during Twig's journey through the Deepwoods, he ends up unintentionally straying from the path. PublishersWeekly said, "The narrative will cast a spell over readers from the beginning with its utterly odd, off-kilter sense of logic and a vocabulary that is equal parts Dr. Generous amounts of text are dedicated to Twig bravely running away from predatory creatures and suchlike, all incredibly imaginative but also somewhat disposable, since most could easily be replaced by some other dangerous creature/situation or even removed from the story altogether. Er ist aufgewachsen bei den Waldtrollen, doch was ihm seine gute Mutter Spelda erzählt, verwirrt Twig.

First of all I absolutely loved Chris Riddle´s illustrations through the whole novel, they were a great way to bring Paul Stewart good description of the creatures to life. Certainly the wood of the bloodoak gave off a lot of heat, and it neither smelled nor sang, but the way it wailed and screamed as it burned put off all but a few.Kādu dienu vecāki nolēma sūtīt Zarēnu pie viņa brālēna, kurš atradās otrpus mežam, piekodinot, lai zarēns paliktu uz takas. And this is the story of all the little adventures he has and the creatures he meets in this rich, illustrious and dangerous forest. Immerhin habe ich das Buch dann doch noch zu Ende gelesen, und das zweite Buch aufgrund des gelungenen Abschlusses angefangen. Some parts within his journey through the Deepwoods were very thrilling, some even a bit dark and mysterious and others were absolutely emotional and heart-warming. Perhaps a tad too violent for the younger kids in middle grade, but a definite must-read for the older kids.

Huge with tree-trunk legs and arms so long that their knuckles graze the ground, they have two tusks which curve up from the jutting lower jaw and large, doleful eyes. The Prowlgrins (which I had originally described as being like hyena/leopard-like creatures, but which Chris had drawn as a curious cross between a whale and a toad) looked to me as if they were brilliantly designed for leaping from branch to branch. So much so, that my original and much loved copy was loaned out so much I can't remember who had it last and kept it . The creativity in the world building is simply phenomenal, elevating every plot with ridiculously well crafted parts of the woods, fantasy creatures, … And the drawings help a lot too.Beyond the Deepwoods is about the Twig, a young humanoid character on his journey across The Edge, a fantasy world full to the brim with creatures and animals that both terrify and amaze us. After a gyle goblin guides him to safety, Twig meets an injured banderbear, one of the forest's dominant predators. As her sons have seen her: the Mother in patriarchy: controlling, erotic, castrating, heart-suffering, guilt-ridden and guilt-provoking; a marble brow, a huge breast, an avid cave; between her legs snakes, swamp-grass, or teeth; on her lap a helpless infant or a martyred son. Overall the narrative has a familiar shape, as the young lad Twig who's been raised by woodtrolls learns that his destiny lies elsewhere, and blunders off through the Deepwoods to find teeming horrors, unexpected friends, comic menaces, enslavement as a pet, his true parentage, and the nature of his feared nemesis the Gloamglozer.

Even though this is written for children, it is a bit dark and some overbearing parents might not like their kids being exposed to situations like death even if they are artfully presented. Da es die Bücher auf deutsch nicht als eBook gibt, habe ich angefangen die englischen eBooks zu lesen.Paul: My main inspiration for the Deepwoods was perhaps the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, though other books–Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, Gormenghast, Gulliver's Travels– also played their part. He just completely devoured it and came running downstairs to tell me all about the amazing setting, plot and characters. Forever thinking he was a Wood Troll, when he finds out he is not, he starts a journey to find out who he is. Twig kills the hover worm and the grateful slaughterer invites him to spend the night in his village.
