At first glance, Death in Space is striking because of its style; thanks to its format, its graphic and its layout. As with any vehicle maintenance, there is a focus on the space HUB’s condition and gaining, maintaining, and using spare parts to maintain a positive condition. It further declares drawing inspiration from several games including the ALIEN RPG which, I reviewed previously and Mörk Borg. For anyone not familiar with the terminology, different circumstances allow players to roll two d20s, and either take the better or worse of the two rolls.In a small park on the side of the road is a memorial monument: a black column with a bust of Komarov at the top. Gaining xp is functionally identical to ALIEN (ask questions at the end of the scenario, for each yes get one XP) except the questions are slightly different. In terms of setting and tone, inspiration comes primarily from the gritty science fiction of films like Outland and Prospect, classic westerns and the grimy future of early 80’s science fiction movies.

There are 42 skills which, at about one per page of the player’s guide, is way more than I would have expected.
