About this deal

From the rip roaring ‘South Australia’, ‘Drunken Sailor’ and ‘No Hopers, Jokers and Rouges’, made famous by the real life band to stunning new songs like ‘Village By The Sea‘ and 'Tidal Pool’.

The producers of the film, Fisherman's Friends, bought the band's life rights to be made into a feature film. So said broadcast legend and long-time fan, Jo Whiley on the BBC's Glastonbury coverage this year just after the boys had sung their Cornish hearts out on the Avalon Stage to rapturous applause from a packed crowd.

They're the original buoy band, straight outta Cornwall, and having already landed one hit movie based on their incredible story, The Fisherman's Friends are ready to set sail on the sequel and another album! Sole Mates comprised tracks that the band had performed during their previous two tours and featured additional instrumentation from Phil Beer from Show of Hands and Emma Murfin from Cornwall-based folk act Black Velvet.

From the makers of the 2018’s hit ‘Finding Your Feet’, this new movie starring Daniel Mays, James Purefoy, Tuppence Middleton, Noel Clarke and directed by Chris Foggin is already tipped to be the feel good hit of the year. This year they've reached 104,000 followers on Facebook, signed a fifth album deal with Island Records. Based on the true story of the chart-topping Cornish singing sensations and their hit 2019 movie, 'Fisherman's Friends: The Musical' is a feel-good voyage about friendship, community and music which smashed box office records in Cornwall. With the addition of Nicholas and Lobb (accordion and guitar) to the founding members of the group, they have included musical accompaniment in their performances. In the original line-up, all of the members of the group "grew up within half a mile of Port Isaac harbour" except for John McDonnell who is a Yorkshireman.

Where once they hauled nets, they're now expected to land hits and the notorious 'second album syndrome', plus the pressures, pitfalls and temptations of their newfound fame, are all starting to bite hard. Jon Cleave is one of the MCs of the group and also the author/illustrator of the children's book series Gully [5] as well as the full length, humorous novel Nasty Pasty.

Then, to boot, forget the movie, sorry movies, and the musical, and the BBC Folk Award of 2011 for upholding the Best Traditions of Folk. Forget the audiences of twenty thousand at the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury, fifty thousand at Proms in the Park, and eighty thousand at Twickenham, even though each was an entirely unforgettable experience. They sing the chorus on Show of Hands' song "Cousin Jack" and the title track of Show of Hands' "best of" CD Roots.
