About this deal

Despite Hugh's protestations about going to the dentist, Terry is determined to drag him to the dentist's chair. Missed this when it was on TV so when I saw the dvd was available I wanted to watch it and I have not been disappointed at all. Also features Jack Haig as Cecil Wormwold, who took over the role from Cyril Smith, whom passed away earlier that year.

Of the episodes I saw, my favourite had to be A Fete worse than Death, with Joan Hickson and Patsy Smart, incredibly funny. When he’s not hard at work at the local aircraft factory, he whiles away his free time getting haplessly roped into Terry’s get-rich-quick schemes. There's tension in the household when Hugh is offered a Whippet puppy by the Crispins, but Terry disallows this. The two actors had previously worked together on stage for many years, which created a comic rapport between them. Mr Crispin is a loud mouth who thinks violence will solve a problem, Mrs Crispin is a snob and their daughter Norma is constantly chased after by men.The other 4 half hour episodes that are said to still survive are not on here and the remaining Christmas night with the stars short is nowhere to be seen. Life at 33 Lobelia Avenue, Tooting is not what it seems as two friends muddle their way out of trouble of their own making.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. This hilarious sitcom sees the unlikely twosome encounter all sorts of scrapes and mishaps as bully boy Terry pursues wealth and glory, with the kind but dim-witted Hugh trailing along behind. It's the day of Terry's cousin Ivy's wedding, and he has been volunteered by her mother Mavis to host the wedding reception, without letting him know in advance. It is very noisy and smoke comes into the living room every time it is started, so Terry decides they should paint a white line at 2am to stop it being parked there. He fails to sell a policy to both sets of neighbours, but the man he does sell a policy to is injured when Terry's sign falls on him, so is able to make a claim. When that convict escapes a few weeks later, he comes to Terry's house armed with a gun and takes them all hostage. There's good support too from Vi Stevens as Terry's mum, and two sets of neighbours: the permanently befuddled Patricia Hayes and Cyril Smith, (later Jack Haigh), and the thinking-themselves-better Mollie Sugden and Wallas Eaton, plus their sex-pot daughter played by Jill Curzon.
