About this deal

Naomi Gibney ( Devils) adapted the novel with the project executive produced by David Gilbery ( The Lost Daughter) and Naomi George ( My Pure Land) from BKStudios. The parents were ridiculous and oblivious - I guess that’s somewhat expected for the time period My Sister’s Bones is set in. The Rafter sisters also have a shared history of tragedy and domestic violence while growing up, as well as very different views on what happened in their troubled childhood home. Hanauer paints a story of two teenage sisters, one with anorexia but told from the point of view of her younger sister, Billie. She is not in a good place at all and when the story begins, she is being assessed for a mental health review; something bad has happened.

Before we get any complaints My Sisters Bones is a recent best selling novel by author Nuala Ellwood described by the Observer as a debut which “…rivals The Girl on the Train as a compulsive read” and producer Bill Kenwright has optioned the rights to make it into a film.Their relationship is explored through the retelling of each sister’s childhood but the pair barely interact and the sibling relationship was not shown nearly as much as I thought it would be. It is a book about facing up to your past, who you are and why you are; a journey that can be hard enough for most, but particularly difficult for those with more troubled childhoods. Reminds you that they are still just children, at risk and running around in an adult world with decisions many times beyond their comprehension. However, the project dipped under the radar after that and was lost in the shuffle of pandemic projects until recently. But for someone like her, who is used to being so self-reliant, it's a hard pill to swallow to seek help from others.

Greensmith reunites with a number of her Winter collaborators including director of photography Joel Devlin ( Willow) and composer Dominic Greensmith. But ever since Cassie left for college, she’s seemed different—withdrawn, obsessed with studying, and she barely eats. The ravages of war, the damage of alcoholism and physical abuse - all were strong themes and I think the author carried them off. Her themes of family, love, loss and guilt are explored with such rawness it is impossible not to become completely engrossed in this powerful psychological thriller. My name is Katherine Sunderland and I'm a bookmaniac who grabs every spare (and sometimes not so spare) moment to devour my next read.I loved this sense of anxiety, fear, unhappiness, lack of trust and implication of threat created through the description, observations and detail of setting, Kate and the other characters. Even if I didn’t have a weakness for tales of con artists overcoming all adversity to find their own, usually idiosyncratic, happily ever afters, I would still be blown away by this smart, terrific tale of the perfect Southern girl using her wits to conquer all.
