About this deal

An efficiently functioning heating system consumes less energy, leading to reduced utility bills and a more eco-friendly household. Increased Comfort & Warmth If you notice some radiators are significantly hotter than others, consider balancing the system by adjusting the radiator valves. Before starting any maintenance work on your heating system, it is always important to turn the heating off and allow the radiators to cool down to prevent burning yourself. Step 2: Isolate the radiator So you want to bleed a radiator because there’s nothing more disheartening than waking up on a freezing day to radiators that refuse to warm up. There are 4 different sizes and I’ve yet to come across a radiator drain valve that it doesn’t fit. My radiator drain valve keys Universal Radiator Key

Once you have protected the surrounding area and positioned your tray, hold the valve tightly with one spanner while you undo the union nut to the radiator with another. NOTE: For full and detailed instructions on how to do this see our removing a radiator project. 3. Drain the Water From the RadiatorOnly approximately halfway up the radiator can the hot water reach due to air rising and being caught. This is incredibly inefficient and may help to explain why you’ve been seeing cold patches or draughts in your house, or just wondering why a room seems a bit cool. Another signal that you may have air building up and need to bleed your radiator is when you can hear clanging or prolonged groaning when you switch on your central heating. Bleeding a radiator simply involves loosening the radiator bleed valve and allowing any air trapped in the system that’s preventing water from flowing and heating your radiators correctly to escape.

Thankfully, replacing a radiator bleed valve is not like replacing a radiator valve and you do not need to remove the radiator. Also, another reason to replace a radiator when you have a leaking bleed valve might be rusting around the valve and threads on the radiator. If you have an old type valve you will need a special key (see image below) to fit this bleed valve (imaginatively called a radiator bleed valve key) and it can be bought from most DIY stores. The most common plumbing tool that gets called a radiator spanner is a large hex or Allen key type for fitting and removing radiator valve tails. You could even explore the option of an automated bleed radiator valve to save you time.
