I loved that Effie also has a magical element to her character which she wasn’t aware of but the one person who sees Effie’s true potential and the real Effie is Lord Blackthorn. Things are going along well (or as well as they can with a bumbling faerie who really doesn’t understand the first thing about humans), but soon enough Effie begins to question whether she’s really after the right man. Lord Blackthorn is disarmingly willing to help Effie masquerade as a real lady, but with little idea of how the human world works, he quickly starts causing more problems than he solves. As such, at least one actual English noblewoman demanded that her English maids put on a fake accent and pretend to be French.

It’s not usually a good idea to make a deal with a Faerie, but this particular faerie really seems to only have the very best of intentions… so Effie makes a wager with him, that with Lord Blackthorn’s help, she will make Mr.I also ended up reading The Latch Key, a novella set in the world of the Regency Faerie Tales that takes place after the events of Half a Soul. But where she sees it as a burden, Blackthorn sees it for the asset it is, and never once faults her for it. Lord Blackthorn was an interesting character from book one that we met briefly as that story unfolded and I was glad to hear a story with him.

From the description, I thought we were heading down much more of a “Rumpelstiltskin” path with an impossible task, but that really wasn’t the case.Against her better judgement, Effie accepts the bargain, and soon Effie is attending balls and catching Lord Benedict’s eye.
