About this deal

Most of the time, they were talking about really important subjects and were making some very good points.

But now I'm in my early 20s, I've lived too many situations, I've seen too many things happening and I've read too many books and essays to let this story impact my person. As for OCD, I won't state an opinion simply because I don't have much knowledge of it besides the generally known concepts of it. Alongside her writing, Holly has a keen interest in women’s rights and is an advocate for reducing the stigma of mental health problems. And I would have loved if someone had explained to me all the things that you end up discovering anyway during life. Auch die Feminismus-Thematik, der sich die 3 Mädels in ihrem Spinster-Club widmen, fand ich super spannend und zum Nachdenken anregend.I rightly should have started with her earliest works, but I couldn’t resist this first book of the Spinster Club trilogy. Rather than telling the reader about feminism she showed how feminism was relevant to the numerous situations the characters found themselves in making it accessible and relatable to young girls. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I have been diagnosed with OCDs only recently so it felt good to read about it: It made me feel less alone and way more understood. After just scrapping by with a few GCSEs, she feels as if now is the right time to reduce her medication for her OCD, and try to be 'normal'.

Holly Bourne, as usual, does not disappoint and delivers readers with another amazingly relatable story about teenagers.

This combined with themes of female friendship and feminism makes for an informative but engaging read. She's off to a new college after having a breakdown at her previous school due to her troubling OCD and anxiety. They all seem to have their own issues, but they are never really explored since this is the main character's Evie's story so by the end I'm like ARE THEY OK? This is not a novel about a condition: Evie's condition is that of being a contemporary young woman, and through her guerrilla feminist group with new soulmates Lottie and Amber (who will each get a novel to themselves shortly) she learns new pathways through life that all her peers can follow. I highly recommend this to you if you love YA contemporary books that move from light moments to dark moments with ease, and if you want to read an authentic portrayal of OCD and Anxiety (as experienced by Evie, I know everyone has their own journey).

Then there's little headings like "Bad thought" that gives a more visual idea of what living with OCD is like. Still, I have to say that this first book in the spinster club series was not a pleasant experience for me. Books that acknowledge or explore mental health issues can help to increase awareness, encourage dialogue, reduce stigma and develop real understanding. OVERALL: I’d recommend this book for anyone aged fourteen to eighteen, or even for adults who love a bit of YA. While reading, I was thinking that this book aces the Bechdel test (girls taking about things other than boys).Glücklicherweise sind ihre beiden Freundinnen aus dem Spinster-Club, Amber und Lottie, immer für sie da. Es ist sehr realitätsnah, dass Verliebtheit nicht immer auf Gegenliebe stößt und dass man manchmal aus falschen Gründen dem falschen Typen hinterherläuft. I loved Holly Bourne's lively Spinster Club – Evie, Amber and Lottie, three friends facing the tough world of being a teenage girl.
