About this deal

Have only ever cleaned it or flushed it when changing inks and then only with water, other than that it just gets to stay inked. Thank you Teoh, if I ever have both (which will probably happen) I will tell you how do those nibs compare.

So this pen has a wider channel (the slit in the feed) than other pens so there is less chance of ink getting stuck while in the pen. However, in the last few years I have been totally spoilt by the introduction of new, higher end pens with various gorgeous nibs etc, so armed with this knowledge, I have to (probably quite unfairly) knock a couple of points off. However, it’s essential to maintain the same amount of pressure throughout or you may end up with patchy writings (darker and lighter patches for areas where greater and lighter pressure are applied respectively). And it wasn't a pretty pen to begin with, because the section is a very light purple; that must have been some special edition, and surely a later production than yours. e. the pen-holder together with the nib) is longer than most conventional pens, which gives you more space to decide the position you are most comfortable with gripping the pen. Ideal for fine drawing, sketching, drafts and good for colouring large areas as they feature robust fibre tips for even and precise strokes. I like both, the DP-1000AN has crisp lines but a slightly scratchy nib and the Rotring has wider lines but a very smooth nib.

It's surprisingly smooth (which is for me - beight a leftie - is a very good thing) and it's nicely wet. The only thing I don't like so much is that you can't place the cap atop the pen whilst using it - I will probably lose it at some point, but oh well.

I would like to ask you wich one you would suggest to me, considering that I never worked with this kind of pen. I’d like to give it a try on a full-size A4 piece to see how taxing it might be over an extended period. I added some water after the initial drawing had dried to see how much the lines were affected by a wet brush.

If anything, the ink probably flows a little too well – by the end of my test doodle, I had an unexpected inky patch on the end of one of my fingers and I noticed that rapid strokes drawn without care will result in a more noticeable hook mark than other pens that I use. It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. But since the ink is fast drying and waterproof, there is a chance that it will eventually clog the channel of the pen. The Lyra Art Pen is a superb, artist quality tool for allcolouring techniques, artistic drawing and sketches.

But having said this, it is still a useful addition to my art box, good for uninterrupted sketching and for larger pen and wash paintings (the pen needs to go on after the watercolour though unless you want the ink to run). To be honest, I quite like the design of the pen, it reminds me to those old desk pens (that I also like ).
