About this deal

Or maybe she does, as when she’s dancing around the room, constructing her playlists, or presenting backing groups in her imagination? A warm hearted read that really perfectly captures what it feels like to be a teenager: it's a real whirlwind of emotions and complexity. I don't think I'd recommend this book to people my age , but I'll definitely pass my copy onto my younger cousins as this is the type of book I would have really appreciated and loved if I was a lot younger. They think she’s taking computer science when all along she’s been taking Mr Grange’s drama lessons….

This was so incredibly young-adult (YA) and thus, the perfect palate cleanser after all the heavy dystopian books. British YA can be hit or miss, often reading much younger than the ages of it's protagonists, so this was a risky purchase but the incredible printed edges on my edition persuaded me. and i really enjoyed the musical accompaniment that christine wrote, it was pretty cool to listen to ellies songs as they were being written. Polly Crosby tells ReadingZone about her novel, This Tale is Forbidden (Scholastic), a fractured fairy tale set in a dystopian world. We understand that she is desperate to be her authentic self, but how can she do this without upsetting her family and friends?

Her friends are cool, but she’s not that girl, in fact most of the time she goes about her life invisible to the rest of the school. Bookwagon suggests this inspiring, rich and compassionate novel, is an ideal accompaniment to Musical Truth, albeit with the Beatles’ White Album playing in the background. Pillainayagam’s inclusion of lyrics in the book was genius, merging medias in that way worked so well.

It also confronts what it’s like for girls of colour living in pro dominantly white area particularly in terms of self acceptance and romance, which I found again very relatable. At first i tought its not gonna be a 5-star read because i was a little judgy about the decription where it says that "Ellie likes Jess´s Boyfriend "(which is not the case at all). It also tackles other serious topics (Loss, addiction, sexuality, mental illness and SA) in a light but effective way (although that creepy footballer guy should have been punished or reported to the school for what he did).
