The first real twist is an effective one which I had to read twice for it to truly sink in, but then the story takes a dramatic turn for the worse with the way it ends. Stephanie and Patrick are happily married with twins if you don’t count the babies’ heavy colic problem which turns to torturous nightmare with nonstop crying tournament, agitation and restlessness. This particular author is new to me but it sounds like she has written a number of Regency romances but from a smaller publisher and it looks like she has quite a fan base established and I am super excited to share more about this upcoming series with you guys today! But the seeds of suspicion have been sown, and Stephanie begins to mistrust her husband, and to investigate his past herself.

The separation between Samantha and Theodore is, whilst unrequited, amicable and necessary, and seems to have allowed Theodore to re-evaluate his attitude towards love. This gave us a well rounded picture of how this one newcomer in town threw several lives into turmoil. She arrives back into his life, accusing him of murdering his first wife, Lindsey and she is making Stephanie doubt her own husband's character. A portion of the book takes place in Colorado and I’m about 40 miles away from one of the mentioned towns. The beauty of Shari Lapena’s meticulous plotting and suspenseful narrative ensures that the reader is kept guessing right to the end!

It was a great book and I really enjoyed all the twists and all the secrets and lies spread throughout the book. There are differences of opinions among readers on the ending but after I picked my jaw up off the floor I decided I loved it. An intriguing cast, an isolated location, a raging storm and the threat of death in every dark corner: An Unwanted Guest reads like Agatha Christie with a shot of adrenalin.
