About this deal

The inaugural album graced the United Kingdom's music scene in 1983, with the United States following suit in 1998. Due to licensing issues, these re-compiled versions often use alternative mixes such as album versions. Some dispute over whether Big Country is the right mix although I have listened to both single and album mix on YouTube and I can't tell them apart. Originally, the series captured extended 12" mixes of dance hits of the time, but from 1991 onwards, all Now Dance compilations featured 7" edits with only occasional extended versions or mixes included. I don't have a super expensive hifi system or claim to have perfect hearing but I find this CD seems to sound sharper (glassier) than the LP I have.

With THREE tracks missing from the original 1986 tracklist including arguably 2 of the best (Bowie and The Real Roxanne, the latter of which was named as one of NME's top 5 singles of 1986) this was always going to be controversial (is it really the same compilation when you miss off 10% of the tracklist? The first two volumes were not released on compact disc, and all subsequent releases were either single, double, or triple disc sets. You can bet if Now 7 ever got a CD release that the version of Opportunities used would not be this one.

For the 30th anniversary of Now in 2013 and the release of Now 100 in Summer 2018, the first Now album was re-compiled and re-issued.

m.) to get acccess to all the albums, but I stopped precisely because so many songs were either missing or not the version they originally used. Since its inception, the series has captivated audiences in numerous countries, including Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, expanding its reach far and wide. My local disco bar played the video frequently during that time; with its anti-war footage ensuring that it remains a memorable one hit wonder.

Another strand of the Now Yearbook series, in August 2022, is the somewhat experimental release of a limited edition, extended play, 7" vinyl single, containing 2 tracks each from the 1983 and 1984 Yearbooks. Some hipsters I know have removed the ‘i’ from ‘Going’ in some sort of ironic and chinstroking prog rock stunt.

Beginning with the release of Now 91 on 24 July 2015, the release dates in the UK and Ireland have been the same following the announcement of The Global Release Day campaign by IFPI, which became effective on 10 July 2015. The single was released at the end of March but obviously its application for inclusion was only granted at the last minute. Some of the Special Editions have identical names, although a few of these titles are followed by their year of release.s last single ‘The Edge of Heaven’, Bowie‘s ‘Absolute Beginners’, a-ha‘s ‘Hunting High and Low’, Simply Red‘s ‘Holding Back The Years’ and ‘bonus track’ Queen‘s ‘A Kind of Magic’. The tie-in television programmes are a month by month video playlist of tracks, from one year previously featured on a Now Yearbook album, with Bruno Brookes presenting.
