About this deal

A: Boxing wraps are essential for protecting your hands and wrists during training or competition. They provide support and stability to your joints, reducing the risk of injury. Wraps also help to absorb sweat and prevent foul odors from developing in your gloves. The same is true with hand wraps under boxing gloves. Hand wraps provide that extra bit of comfort and support to help reduce the likelihood of injuring your hands while boxing.

There are many varieties of protection you will want to add to your kit. Medical equipment like first aid kits with boxing bandages and injury support can help you treat any injuries you sustain during matches. With the right support in place, you can ensure that you don’t cause further problems or damage while speeding up your recovery time. You should be wearing hand wraps whenever you train and essentially, any time you’re using the full force of your punch or training up to this. You should be diligent to protect your wrists when:The study found that traditional hand wraps were two times more effective at protecting hands against cuts and bruises. While boxing gloves cover your entire hands, they still don’t maximise the protection, especially to the wrist area. Boxing hand wraps hold everything in place and provide all the support to help prevent any injury. Tape and gauze is what the pros do, in boxing, MMA, martial arts and UFC. Gauze is light and breathable, and is also thinner than cloth wraps, both of which make it much more comfortable under a set of gloves. However, you won’t be taping or gauzing your hands yourself - this almost always requires a second person to do it for you. If you’re training solo, you probably won’t have this luxury. Tape and gauze is also NOT reusable - you’ll need to cut it off and do it again with fresh tape and gauze next time you want to train, which can be annoying. I’m a big fan of gel gloves for training. This is mainly what I do now - I used to fight a little bit when I was younger (although nothing serious) but I don’t any more - and I think a proper set of gel gloves is fine for training in. If I was taking my boxing a little more seriously (training three or four times per week with a regime, etc) I’d probably be looking to gravitate towards proper hand wraps, but for the occasional boxer that likes a go on the heavy bag or the occasional sparring session, you won’t go far wrong with a good quality (not cheap rubbish) set of gel inner gloves.

All of these materials are usually really good when it comes to hand wraps. The main thing you should look for is that the hand wraps should have reinforced stitching. You could also look at elastic hand wraps which are much more stretchy than their reusable cloth counterparts. These are better as they are more flexible and will conform to your hands as you box . How to Choose & Use Boxing Wraps?

With traditional wraps, Wilking recommends that you seek out a professional to show you exactly the right way to wrap and stay wrapped. If you're using glove wraps, it's easier for you to secure your wrists on your own. It is very common during a competitive bout for a fighter to receive a cut, cornermen and cutmen often use vaseline or petroleum jelly as it helps to slow down the bleeding from the cut and therefore stop blood from dripping into the eye of a fighter or even causing a referee to stop the fight.
